#TutuTuesday: A Blast from the Past - August 1986!

Hello my darling tutu-lovers! It's Emma here, your pink-loving, tutu-obsessed, time-traveling ballerina, ready to take you on another journey through the captivating history of the tutu!

This week's #TutuTuesday whisks us back to August 1986! This year is buzzing with excitement as we remember a few big milestones.

Can you believe it was a whole year ago that we all went absolutely bonkers over "Pretty in Pink"?! The 80s are full of glorious fashion moments, and the film's iconic tutu is a prime example of how these styles continue to influence us even today.

Oh, and it's a real joy to step back in time and watch the resurgence of the "ballerina" aesthetic in fashion right now. I know we were all obsessed back in the day, but seeing designers incorporating tutu-like layers, airy silhouettes, and delicate ribbons into their collections again is just utterly delightful!

Speaking of exciting events, on this very day, August 19th, 1986, there was an utterly glamorous gala happening in Paris - it's the Editions Spéciales Pierre Cardin.

Imagine a stunning collection of ballet dancers gracing the stage in exquisite costumes! This is where the tutu takes centre stage and reminds us of the pure, magical essence of ballet. The intricate details, the effortless movement - it's a true masterpiece! I can practically smell the excitement, hear the music, and feel the elegance of it all.

You know, I'm also getting excited about a new tutu adventure! You see, my trip through time this time brought me to the incredible Palais Garnier in Paris. Can you believe it?! Just a short hop away from the Louvre. Such an amazing coincidence!

It seems I've been drawn to a fabulous vintage boutique in the heart of the City of Lights. I've found the most divine 19th-century tutu in a delicate blush pink - just perfect! I've been making some connections, and it turns out I might even have the opportunity to catch a ballet performance at the Palais Garnier itself! It would be the ultimate way to celebrate my love for both ballet and this incredible era of the tutu!

Now, for my fellow time-travelers, I’m a bit of a train buff, so of course, I chose the most delightful way to traverse the continent— by train! The slow pace of the journey really allows me to reflect on the past, admire the changing landscapes, and dream up all the wonderful outfits I might need for my adventures.

Imagine the sights! Quaint little villages, majestic cathedrals, and charming marketplaces bustling with life! And imagine the train journey! I love gazing at the world passing by, sipping a cup of tea, and jotting down all the wonderful things I'm discovering about tutu history. I even make time to whip out my sketchbook and doodle my newest tutu ideas!

Now, let's talk a little more about what was happening in the world of ballet around this time. It’s truly remarkable to see how dance has evolved over the years. Remember that 80s spirit we love so much? The era that brought us fabulous, flamboyant costumes, dynamic choreography, and even neon-bright stage lighting. Yes, even that bold pink colour palette was being experimented with in those times!

From the power and artistry of Mikhail Baryshnikov to the breathtaking talent of Rudolf Nureyev, we were blessed with captivating performances from iconic ballet dancers. I know my blog has been going back and forth, but I’m just filled with so much joy! Remember, it's our passion for dance that connects us all.

Speaking of joy and colour, wouldn’t it be fantastic to get all our tutu lovers together for a big, celebratory dance party?! I can picture us whirling and twirling in our colourful tutus, radiating sheer happiness. Wouldn’t that be something, my dear tutu-friends?

I'll be keeping you updated on my Paris adventures, my fellow tutu fanatics. This vintage blush pink tutu will need some fancy accessorising to show it off! Maybe I’ll try a vibrant vintage ribbon and a dazzling tiara.

If you're feeling inspired to delve into your own tutu journey, let's embrace the elegance and joy that tutus bring to our lives. Embrace your inner ballerina! And, remember, dear friends, life is much more fabulous in a tutu!

Lots of love,

Emma
