#TutuTuesday: A Whirlwind Tour of Tutu History! 🩰✨

Hello darlings, and welcome back to Pink Tutu! This week, we're whisking back to 1987 – a truly fabulous era, if I may say so myself! As ever, buckle your pointe shoes, because we're embarking on another whimsical journey through the history of tutus.

Today is July 28th, a glorious summer day for tutus! While it’s hot enough to feel like a stage light, and everyone in England is out at Wimbledon for the tennis tournament (have you ever seen more glorious white outfits, by the way? They really put me in the mood for ballet), this week I’m whisking us across the Atlantic – just imagine, by train, which I find simply divine. The choo-choo’s arrival is enough to make me do a little pirouette! – to the glamorous land of New York where a fabulous ballet event awaits…

This date marks the New York premiere of George Balanchine’s "Jewels." Oh, Jewels, darling! Talk about pure, unadulterated brilliance – I am completely in awe!

Balanchine was a total ballet genius, truly, and "Jewels" is considered one of the most innovative ballets in history. Its trilogy of three movements, each one set to music by a different composer and reflecting a different jewel - diamonds, rubies and emeralds - is simply exquisite.

Now, let's talk tutus! For "Jewels," Balanchine chose to create tutus in the iconic **classic "Romantic" style. We’re talking big, puffy, glorious tutus, exactly as they should be. This choice reflects the elegance and sheer sparkling grandeur of these iconic jewels, and it makes for a truly captivating stage picture.

Here’s the real story, though. "Jewels" actually came from Balanchine's fascination with real jewellery. *He loved to look at jewels and even sketched them during performances at the Metropolitan Opera. Imagine all those precious stones sparkling on stage - it would have made for the *most exquisite and dramatic performance!

Just thinking about these sparkly ballerinas in all their glamorous splendour gives me a right good flutter in my tummy – just as it would have done back in 1987!

Now, as this week marks an incredibly special moment in tutu history, it's time to grab your pinkest tulle and practice those arabesques. Let's channel the brilliance of "Jewels" – those glittering ballerinas just radiating beauty and grace – and wear our tutus with that *je ne sais quoi!

Because, here at Pink Tutu, we know the most glamorous thing you can wear is confidence and sparkle, and nothing, absolutely nothing **makes you feel more beautiful than a lovely pink tutu!

Catch you all next Tuesday, lovelies!

Lots of Love,

Emma x
