Tutu Tuesday: A Glimpse Back in Time! #8131
Hello my gorgeous Tutu Tribe! It's your favourite pink tutu wearing ballerina blogger, Emma, back again with another instalment of #TutuTuesday, your weekly dose of all things tutu and ballet history!
This week we're taking a trip back to the 27th of October, 1987, and trust me, you'll want to grab a cuppa and settle in because we're about to delve into some fabulous fashion and ballet history!
Now, 1987 was a year of huge change, my lovelies. Think shoulder pads, big hair, and leg warmers. A fashion dream for a time-traveling tutu fanatic like myself! The music scene was buzzing with the likes of Whitney Houston, Madonna, and Michael Jackson – a fab soundtrack to my ballet-inspired explorations!
And as for the world of ballet… well, let's just say it was still swirling in the ethereal grace of legendary dancers like Rudolf Nureyev, Mikhail Baryshnikov, and Margot Fonteyn. A time of utter elegance and artistry!
I found myself right in the heart of New York City for this week's journey, where the Metropolitan Opera House was brimming with excited chatter ahead of an enchanting performance. You wouldn't believe the incredible tutus I spotted!
I particularly loved a performance by the New York City Ballet, showcasing a stunning adaptation of "The Sleeping Beauty", with some of the most exquisitely crafted tutus I've ever seen! Imagine shimmering fabrics and hand-sewn details, like dreams spun into silk and tulle!
Speaking of tutus, my latest online find was a simply divine vintage design in a sparkling lilac hue. It's absolutely perfect for a spring ball or a special evening out - I just know it will make a statement! And as for the 1987 styles, oh my! Can you believe those puffy sleeves and oversized jewellery? Absolutely heavenly for my time travelling wardrobe!
It's amazing how time has both changed and stayed the same, isn't it? Back in 1987, people still flocked to see dazzling ballet shows, mesmerised by the magic and grace of the dancers. Just like we do today, my dear Tutu Tribe!
My darling, dear, have you seen a ballet recently? Let me know! I’d love to hear your experiences.
Speaking of experiences, let me share one of mine: I found myself on a most wonderful vintage train journey back in the 1980s - think plush velvet seats and the soft rumble of the engine, quite charming really. As we rolled along, the scenery whizzed past, creating a picturesque backdrop for my tutu-clad adventures.
And, of course, no trip would be complete without a little shopping. The boutiques were overflowing with stunning designs. Just the thought of velvet, satin, and delicate lace sends my fashion-loving heart aflutter! I’d love to see your favourite 1980s designs, do share!
It truly is inspiring to see how the spirit of ballet endures, and how it continues to influence and amaze the world, just like a twirling ballerina enchants with every step!
I'm off to plan my next tutu-filled journey, my lovely Tutu Tribe! Don't forget to join me next Tuesday for another fab #TutuTuesday - I'm sure you won't want to miss it!
Until then, wear your tutus with pride and never be afraid to twirl with joy.
Yours in tulle and grace, Emma, Your Tutu Travel Guide!
