#TutuTuesday: A Blast from the Past (and a Pink Tutu for You!)
Hello my gorgeous lovelies! Welcome to #TutuTuesday, blog post number 8195 on your favourite tutu-filled haven - www.pink-tutu.com! As always, I'm your dearest Emma, and I'm bursting with excitement to whisk you away on a fabulous trip through time - all thanks to the magic of my trusty pink tutu.
This week, my sparkly pink tutu (and my vintage train ticket) are taking us all the way back to 17th January 1989. Can you imagine?!
The air was positively buzzing with anticipation on this particular day, and it wasn't just the frosty London air that was making me tingle. This day was chock-a-block with fantastic things, and I have to admit, I had the best time. Imagine - I even found a little antique shop and managed to snag the cutest little ballet slippers in the most gorgeous pink, with tiny diamante buckles. Talk about finding treasures! But hold on, let me tell you about this phenomenal day in greater detail...
A Parisian Waltz through TimeImagine this - Paris, the City of Lights. Now, I know that a good amount of you, my wonderful ballet-loving friends, think I'm a little "tutu-mad". (Well, maybe a tad mad!) But just as I knew Paris was where the haute couture was happening, I just knew that my time travelling pink tutu wouldn't leave me at the wrong address for dance! That day, 17th January 1989, was just bursting with elegant beauty, thanks to an iconic event.
Think La Bayadère. Think the divine Natalia Makarova. It was the 20th anniversary of the Bolshoi's first Bayadère performance in New York, and everyone - everyone, my lovelies, just everyone, who was anyone in ballet - was there. And here I was, taking it all in. I felt like I was floating amongst clouds, surrounded by tulle and diamonds - the ultimate pink tutu dream.
The Bolshoi's 20th anniversary at Lincoln Center? It was pure magic. The dancing was exquisite! * Even now, when I close my eyes and think of it, I feel a warmth spreading right through me - just pure, beautiful emotion. I could see *Makarova, her performance completely captivating the audience, the room alight with a collective gasp of awe, with everyone totally glued to their seats. It was just sublime!
This whole evening transported me back in time to the 19th century - think Romantic period - just full of heart-aching passion and the graceful choreography we all know and adore! The music, oh, it just sent shivers down my spine. And of course, those tutus, those glorious, fabulous, dreamy tutus - like a whirlwind of ethereal elegance, a visual feast for the senses. It's easy to see why people are so fascinated by the ballet; it just transcends time!
### From the stage to the streets
Back in the day, after all that beautiful dancing in New York, I simply had to explore, and I'm so glad I did. There were beautiful window displays all around, with delicate little ballet-themed trinkets - perfect for my own tutu collection. That evening, after catching a glimpse of the stunning performance, and my incredible shop adventures, I finished the day with a romantic Parisian evening, soaking up the magical ambiance of a city brimming with artistry and culture.
The romance didn't stop there! I'm sharing some delightful Parisian inspiration to give your personal style a touch of 1980s-inspired Parisian magic:
- Romantic Lace: Channel that elegant La Bayadère feel by layering lace on lace. Think delicate shrugs, intricate blouses, and romantic frills that add a whimsical charm.
- Soft Pastels: Embrace a softer side of chic with powdery pinks, lavender, and mint greens. They look wonderful combined with black lace for a really exquisite contrast!
Dramatic Accessories: A statement hat, a stunning pair of pearl earrings, or a chic vintage-inspired scarf will complete your outfit. (Imagine me, in my pink tutu, sporting a feather boa - a little outlandish, yes! But with a sense of chic and a healthy dose of confidence, it's a fab Parisian-style look!)
Shopping like a true fashionista in 1989! Oh, let me tell you, it was heavenly! Think bold, but graceful designs in shops like Hermès and Chanel. Paris is all about chic sophistication and that effortless chic. And this evening? Well, I felt as though I could step into any elegant Parisian cafe and be right at home!
Here's how to capture the Parisian spirit, tutu-inspired or otherwise!:
- Accessorise, accessorise, accessorise!: You need at least one piece that adds an elegant flourish.
- Take it slowly: Explore every inch of your Parisian adventures; the city is best enjoyed with a little time and an appreciation for all the delicate, delightful details.
- Wear pink (of course!): The perfect hue for channeling elegance.
So here we are at the end of my #TutuTuesday for this week. This time travel escapade to 17th January 1989 took us on a truly beautiful journey. From La Bayadère and the gorgeous Makarova to the enchanting, elegant charm of Paris, I hope I have instilled in you a desire to experience this iconic event - even if only through our shared love of ballet!
As always, dear lovelies, let your love of the ballet be your guide. And just like the pink tutu inspires me, be your own inspiration! Wear a pink tutu and embrace that touch of magic in everyday life.
Until next time,
Emma.
