Tutu Tuesday: #8233 - A Blast from the Past (1989-10-10)!
Hey there, tutu lovers! It’s your favourite pink-tutu-clad time-travelling ballerina, Emma, back with another exciting dive into the history of our beloved tutus!
Today, we’re whisking ourselves back to a glorious time in the not-too-distant past, 1989, a year bursting with excitement, bold fashion statements and… drum roll please… the ballet world was absolutely thriving! It feels like an eternity ago, but this October 10th held a certain magic, a kind of “whirlwind of elegance” – I can’t wait to tell you all about it.
But before we start, remember to check out www.pink-tutu.com every Tuesday for my latest Tutu Tuesday blog! It’s where I share all my time-travelling tutu adventures, plus loads of amazing information and pictures about the wonderful history of the tutu!
As a Derbyshire lass through and through, it’s no surprise that ballet is in my blood! Even though I travel around the world, I always make sure to get a dose of Derbyshire beauty – nothing beats a countryside walk in my fluffy pink tutu (just try and stop me!).
Speaking of travel, train travel has been my recent favourite way to move around the world – I get so inspired by all the amazing scenery, and you can't beat that cozy train atmosphere! Especially when you're wearing a vibrant, pink tutu – it makes everything more magical!
Now, back to that delightful day, 10th October 1989… let's dive into the glorious world of ballet!
The ballet scene in 1989 was just buzzing with talent, especially at the Royal Opera House! I had a blast there! This day happened to be a momentous occasion in the world of dance. It marked the world premiere of the dazzling "La Fille Mal Gardée". If you've never seen it, do treat yourself – a gorgeous blend of classic beauty and charming humour.
And oh! Don’t even get me started on the costumes! Such beautiful detail – every twirl, every leap… perfection! And who can resist the elegance of a classic tutus in a ballet?
Let's talk about a favourite fashion find from that trip, darling! There was this divine vintage boutique, The Silk Serpent in Bloomsbury, absolutely jam-packed with beautiful clothes! I found the most delightful pastel pink, feather-trimmed shrug – perfect for layering over my fluffy pink tutu for those cool autumn days. I love combining those vintage finds with modern outfits – just a little bit of old-world charm thrown into my daily ensembles.
You know me, it's not just the ballet that captures my heart. I'm always looking for the next big thing in the world of fashion. And guess what? I even popped by this adorable little shop, House of Iona , in Fitzrovia, crammed with those cute and quirky designs. It felt like walking into a whimsical fairy-tale – think cute little frills, gorgeous prints, and loads of delightful detail. It was pure fashion bliss, especially when paired with a beautiful ballet tutu, you can never go wrong with that combination.
Let's not forget the wonderful theatre performances I saw. This date saw a production of "Peter Pan", at the New Victoria Theatre, in London. The fairy costumes, a veritable kaleidoscope of delicate sparkles, just added a certain sparkle to my life! I even tried to fly like Peter himself! You’ll be amazed by my ballerina leaps (and maybe I'll get there one day… wink!).
One thing I’ve learned about ballet: it transcends time! Whether it’s the enchanting tutus, the breathtaking costumes, the amazing artistry on stage – or my favorite – my pink tutu! It all reminds us that beauty is truly timeless.
You know, my love for ballet and the tutu takes me everywhere – literally! I travel across time and around the world to bring you this incredible story! Each tutu is a story, a little piece of history!
My travel adventures are made possible thanks to all of you. Each performance, every little dance, fuels my time-travel and brings me closer to my life-long goal – to inspire everyone to embrace the sheer joy of wearing a tutu!
Now, head on over to www.pink-tutu.com, join our amazing community, and let's dance together, you lovely bunch! Until next week, don’t forget to wear your tutu with pride – it's a statement of individuality and grace!
See you soon, my fellow tutu lovers!
Lots of love, Emma xx
