Tutu Tuesday #8237: A Whirlwind Through Time – 1989-11-07!

Hello my darlings, and welcome to another exciting edition of Tutu Tuesday! Today, I've strapped on my time travel shoes and travelled all the way back to November 7th, 1989. I just adore the sheer excitement of history, and believe me, 1989 was a time of wonderful, sweeping changes and style – let's just say tutus were absolutely rocking it!

Of course, it wouldn't be Tutu Tuesday without a beautiful pink tutu for me to wear. This one, my darlings, is pure silk, a gorgeous bubblegum shade with layers of tulle and sequins sparkling like diamonds. Just heavenly!

Fashion Fever:

In 1989, fashion was a joyous kaleidoscope of colours. Bold, bright, and oh-so-feminine! The era loved strong shoulders, chunky jewellery, and of course, the power of the skirt. The fashion scene was vibrant, experimental and – brace yourselves – I just spotted a little bit of glitter on that skirt there! Now you know we are about to have a truly fashionable journey back in time!

What was my own personal look for this trip? Well, naturally, it involves a pink tutu, of course! Let me tell you, pink was having a serious moment back in 1989, with bold colours being a huge fashion trend. So a lovely bright pink, perfectly accessorized with an oversized bow and a pair of matching leg warmers (did someone say leg warmers?), completed the look with a splash of playful whimsy. Honestly, I can't imagine being a 20-something woman anywhere in the world back then, but particularly not in the heart of this fashion frenzy, without a delightful pink tutu in my wardrobe.

Dancing the Night Away

Speaking of frenzies, how about this news – a new ballet season had just started! You just wouldn't believe the excitement back then, I'm sure you can imagine how it is here today. I could practically hear the whispers of tutus rustling around the theatre, like delicate whispers on a wind, in every corner! In New York, the Metropolitan Opera had a very special show coming up with some truly brilliant dancers. Let me tell you, the excitement was palpable! A new generation of dancers, beautiful music, and stunning choreography... this ballet was a surefire hit!

Oh! A truly wonderful thought – do you know I met a very lovely young ballerina back then – she said that her most cherished moment during her dance training was witnessing the sheer magic of ballet for the first time at the Royal Ballet in London! Now, wouldn’t that be the perfect time travel journey – being back at the Royal Ballet. So maybe next Tuesday...

Train Travels and Shopping Splendour

It wouldn't be a trip without a spot of shopping! What's more stylish than travelling through history in a beautiful train carriage, gliding across the countryside, in your tutu, of course? Back in the 1980s, it was just a lovely way to travel and really feel a part of the fashion era.

Now, imagine this – walking through bustling London or New York, surrounded by those vibrant street styles, the shops brimming with clothes, and stopping by the elegant department stores, everything perfectly styled in window displays, the sheer visual magic. Honestly, that would be a whole week's worth of exploration just in these shops, my darling friends! I can almost hear the swish of those skirts and feel the excitement of trying on those dazzling outfits and matching shoes and jewelry. Imagine a gorgeous shop window with sparkling dresses in hues of vibrant blues, and rich deep reds, like a rainbow bursting through a kaleidoscope!

I am, naturally, going to be stocking up on all the best bits of this era's fashions for my own little collection - and you can be sure I’ll be sharing my finds in a future Tutu Tuesday! Now, if only I could fit everything in my time travel trunk, eh?

Pink Tutu Power

Now, remember darlings, I always try to find a pink tutu somewhere in history – to be honest, a pink tutu in 1989 would've been truly extraordinary! Perhaps a very bold fashion designer – and they were all so full of ideas in this era! I just know I could have inspired somebody to think a little pink, and spread some cheer on this day in history with my tutu magic!

And of course, as we are reaching the end of this journey, let's not forget what was happening outside the world of ballet, fashion, and trains – it was a big week! The Berlin Wall came down! A huge historical turning point. And that feeling, of change, of possibility – was it a sign of a more feminine future for us all, my dears? You know me - and all my thoughts turn back to how amazing and beautiful everything looks with a tutu, especially a lovely shade of pink.

So, I'll leave you with this: let's celebrate 1989 for all its fun and bright colours, for the spirit of exploration and bold style! Keep your eye on your own unique style, remember to embrace a bit of magic and beauty in your lives. And, as always, let’s continue spreading that pink tutu love everywhere we go.

And now, darlings, off to plan my next adventure! You can see all of my favourite pink tutus and find out where to buy the perfect one on www.pink-tutu.com - and I'll be back here next Tuesday with a whole new Tutu Tuesday treat.

Until then, stay sparkly, my lovely readers!

Yours in tutus and travels,

Emma x
