#TutuTuesday: Ballet Tutu History - 15th January 1991 - Post #8299

Hello lovelies!

It’s Emma here, back again with another #TutuTuesday post, full of fascinating ballet history! Can you believe it’s already the 15th January, 1991? This week I'm whisked away by time travel to Paris - the city of romance, croissants, and of course, beautiful ballet! Paris is the heart of the dance world and a magical place to be, full of elegant boutiques and Parisian charm.

I must say, the train ride here was pure bliss. Just imagine, a spacious carriage, warm lighting, and my vibrant pink tutu bouncing gently as the scenery zips by! I felt like a princess gliding through time itself!

The weather in Paris today is perfect, crisp and invigorating, ideal for a trip to the Opéra Garnier - the home of Parisian ballet! This grand building is the pinnacle of architectural elegance, a true spectacle! I always get a little flutter of excitement as I approach the grand entrance - can you blame me? Today is going to be a special treat. The famed Ballet de l'Opéra de Paris is performing a truly magical show - La Bayadère, a mesmerizing and colourful story of love, betrayal, and ultimate sacrifice! Can't you picture the delicate dancers swishing in their tulle tutus, the mesmerising choreography, the stunning costumes - it’s an experience I wouldn't miss for the world!

Speaking of tutus…

Today's Tutu History Lesson!

We've come a long way from the early days of ballet! You see, those first tutus were not all lace and frills! They were made of a rather bulky material - thick linen, sometimes with a simple silk lining - and quite a bit longer! The length of the tutu really evolved with the changes in dance styles, becoming progressively shorter with the rise of romantic ballet and even shorter with the advent of pointe work.

However, 1991 was a special year for tutus! Fashion designers and dance costume makers were pushing the boundaries! Think stretch tulle and lycra! They allowed for a closer fit and more freedom of movement for the ballerinas, which made those swirling leaps and breathtaking jumps possible!

Remember ladies, we have these lovely designers to thank for those breathtaking tutus we see today - sleek, streamlined and impossibly graceful. It’s no wonder that even when I’m not in a tutu, my wardrobe always includes some gorgeous flowy skirts - that twirling sensation is a truly addictive joy!

And, what makes my Parisian adventure even more special? I spotted the most incredible vintage shop on the way to the opera!

Just imagine, beautiful glass cases overflowing with vintage garments, gloves, and a few tucked away beauties in pink… of course I found a couple of fabulous tutu-like creations to add to my collection! It seems my pink-tutu love transcends time. It's a true testament to the timeless elegance of the tutu - something every girl needs in her life, even just a dash of pink to brighten your day.

And as always, don’t forget to embrace your inner ballerina! Wear pink, wear tulle, and remember…the only thing you should worry about being is worry free and twirling-ready!

Until next week, keep your tutus twirling, and never stop dreaming!
