#TutuTuesday Ballet Tutu History: A Trip Back to April 27th, 1993! 🩰💖

Hello my lovely Tutu Twirlers! Welcome back to another installment of #TutuTuesday on www.pink-tutu.com for a jaunt through the whimsical world of ballet history! This week, we’re taking a trip back to April 27th, 1993.

Just imagine it: The wind in my hair, the sunshine on my face as I travel on a vintage train, heading to the most exciting city in the world…Paris! Now, that’s a fashionista's dream! And it just so happens that on this day in 1993, a very special ballet performance is taking place at the beautiful Palais Garnier, which you might recognise as the stunning backdrop of Gaston Leroux’s famous phantom-filled novel, The Phantom of the Opera (that ghostly guy who just loved his theatre!).

You guessed it! Tonight is opening night for The Sleeping Beauty! But don’t worry, dear readers, it’s a magical tale with happy endings and gorgeous gowns. In fact, the costumes in this production, designed by Christian Lacroix, are to die for. I can just imagine the swishy, sparkling fabrics in the famous Rose Adagio and the flowing grace of the ballerinas. I would be practically glued to the stage if I could get there! Just picture me, swirling in a bright pink tulle tutu with a splash of sparkle, completely enraptured by the elegance and the music of the whole evening. Wouldn’t that be perfect?

But what makes this evening even more exciting is the amazing Natalia Makarova, a true legend of ballet! This absolute superstar has taken the role of Aurora (the beautiful sleeping princess), and from the stories I hear, she dances it to pure perfection. Her athleticism, the grace and the charisma…it’s no wonder people travel from across the world to see her dance.

And speaking of the ballet, did you know that this April 27th is the day of the opening of one of the most iconic dance companies on Earth – the American Ballet Theatre? I mean, how many ballet stories start with that click-click-clack of tap shoes on the dance floor as a little ballerina takes her first class at this legendary place? (Although of course we need a super cute pink tutu with extra-sparkly accents. No ballerina is complete without her special sparkly pink tutu – the more sparkly, the better!)

I could practically spend hours talking about the incredible ballet history of 1993! It’s like I’m being transported back through time and watching this period from a front-row seat! Oh, I wouldn’t even mind being a ghost in the audience! A tiny bit spooky perhaps, but who wouldn’t want to see history through ballet glasses?. It's all so wonderful, and so perfectly fitting that a truly beautiful story like The Sleeping Beauty is performed on a day where history was also written, right down to the delicate tip of each sparkly toe.

Of course, my journey doesn’t stop here! Tomorrow I'll be back to bring you the very latest news from the fashion world, exploring more fabulous ballet happenings, and reminiscing about all things sparkly, fabulous, and tutu-filled!

Until then, twirl happily, my dearest Tutu Twirlers! I know it’s your favourite way to end a day – so why not add a sprinkle of pink into every moment!

Happy #TutuTuesday!

P.S. I'm working on my very own Tutu Travels book to be published soon - stay tuned for details. In the meantime, let me know if you have any ideas! Remember: I love to hear your ballet dreams!

See you next Tuesday!

Emma ❤️

P.P.S Don’t forget, every time you put on a pink tutu and dance, you’re adding another chapter to the pink-tutu story - that's how we get everyone wearing pink tutus, my dears! One twirl, one twirl at a time!
