#TutuTuesday: Ballet Tutu History - June 9th, 1998 (Post #8685)

Hello my darling tutu lovers! Welcome back to Pink Tutu! It's a gorgeous Tuesday, the sun is shining, and the air is filled with the intoxicating scent of freshly bloomed roses (a good sign for a successful ballet class later!). Today I'm on a whirlwind adventure right here in the heart of Paris - oh la la! It's so lovely here - everyone is so stylish, especially in their beautiful tutus. Today, though, we're diving deep into the archives, going all the way back to the year 1998 to celebrate our favourite fashion trend - tutus, of course!

But before we go dancing through the years, just a quick reminder that we have some super exciting things going on at Pink Tutu. Firstly, did you see the AMAZING tutu tutorial I posted last week? I know, I know, I'm absolutely loving the bright fuchsia shade I used. So pretty, wouldn't you agree? Plus, don't forget - my ballet show in Manchester is just around the corner - it's going to be fabulous, full of magic, and I absolutely can't wait for you to see it! Just a few more weeks and the tickets are already selling like hot cakes.

Okay, let's go back to that glorious year of 1998 - the time of floppy hats, belly button shirts, and iconic boy bands like the Backstreet Boys. What an amazing time to be a ballerina - especially one with a passion for fashion! The tutu was experiencing a true renaissance! The year saw some truly spectacular performances by some of the greats like Mikhail Baryshnikov and Sylvie Guillem.

Oh, my darlings, I have a dream to visit Russia one day and see a ballet at the Bolshoi. Imagine it - those soaring archways, the opulent chandeliers, and the thrill of a legendary Russian ballet company! Can't you feel it?!

Now, back to our #TutuTuesday journey. The tutus of 1998 had such an interesting flair. A slightly more modern take on the classic look. They were longer, fuller, and more ethereal, floating like dreams on stage. And can we talk about the colours? Pastel pinks, buttery yellows, and shimmering blues! My, my, the tutus of 1998 were simply divine.

In a few short days, on the 13th of June, it will be the anniversary of that absolutely magical performance of Swan Lake at the Royal Opera House. It's the first performance that inspired me to chase this beautiful ballet dream. What a dream it was, seeing those amazing dancers glide across the stage! It's moments like that that fill me with such a sense of inspiration, reminding me why I do what I do.

To top off 1998, it also marked the grand opening of a gorgeous ballet studio in Derbyshire, my very own county! This, of course, was an absolute dream for a young ballerina like myself. You can bet I was one of the first people to sign up for a class.

Remember darlings, my motto: "Embrace the tutu, embrace life!"

Now, who is ready to grab their most fabulous tutu and spin their way into a week filled with happiness?

Until next Tuesday, Emma xoxo
