#TutuTuesday: Ballet Tutu History - 8889 - 07 May 2002 🩰💕

Hello my lovely tutu-loving friends! It's Emma here, your pink tutu-clad time traveller, back again for another whirlwind tour through ballet tutu history! Today, we're setting our time machine dial to 07 May 2002, a day brimming with fashion, dance, and of course, plenty of twirling!

Now, I've got to tell you, stepping back to 2002 was a real treat for a tutu enthusiast like myself. You see, the world of fashion was going wild for that vintage look back then, and that meant a renaissance for the tutu! I mean, it was practically a rule that every fashionista had at least one tutu tucked away in their closet. And let's be honest, there's just something magical about the tutu. It transforms you instantly into a ballerina, even if your only experience is twirling around the living room to the theme tune of Strictly Come Dancing!

This week, as I popped in for a peek at what the fashion world was up to back in 2002, I couldn't help but be reminded of why we adore tutus. They are bold, beautiful, and brimming with effortless charm! Whether you're sporting a classically elegant layered tutu or a whimsical shorter one for a night out, the tutu speaks of freedom and femininity in a way that few other garments can.

Of course, I couldn't resist a bit of a shopping spree myself! The shops were full of wonderful tutu-inspired dresses and skirts, perfect for adding a touch of ballerina glamour to any occasion. The sparkly tutus in shades of lavender and blush were my particular favourites - they were so romantic and timeless, like stepping out of a dream! Oh, and speaking of dreams, remember the choker necklace? They were EVERYWHERE in 2002 and perfectly complemented a twirling tutu, don’t you think?

Now, onto the real reason I hopped into my time machine - to get you up to speed on the latest happenings in the world of dance! And 7th May 2002 was quite the date! In New York City, the American Ballet Theatre kicked off its Spring Season, a huge event featuring top-tier ballets that every ballet fan worth their salt was eager to see. The star power alone was a massive draw, and let’s just say I didn’t hold back on the front row seats!

It wasn’t just all about high-class ballets that week, however. I was delighted to catch a street performance in London. A bunch of dancers were staging an impromptu flash mob performance in Trafalgar Square! It was hilariously energetic, so utterly charming! And as a dedicated tutu fan, it goes without saying that I had a magnificent time.

Back in my own time, the tutu is still very much alive and well, and my heart swells with glee each time I see a dancer grace the stage. But for me, the magic is in the sheer fun of it all. The twirling, the elegance, the whimsical romance - they're all so enchanting, and they fill my life with joy! So grab your favourite tutu and get ready to twirl into the world of ballet. You're guaranteed to find a little magic along the way!

And remember my lovely dancers, this isn’t the end of my adventures. I’m going to be sharing more of my ballet travels here each Tuesday, with tales from around the globe, the latest tutu news, and, of course, plenty of pink !

Stay fabulous and stay twirling,

Emma xoxo
