#TutuTuesday: Ballet Tutu History - 9011
Hello darlings! It's your favourite pink tutu-wearing ballerina, Emma, here, ready to take you on a whirl through ballet history! 🩰✨ This week, we're going back in time to a very special date – 7th September 2004! Can you believe it? We're venturing into the 21st Century with all its glitz and glam. Buckle up, buttercups, because this one's going to be a hoot!
Today I hopped onto the train and landed myself smack dab in the heart of New York City. What better place to explore tutu history than the city that never sleeps? From Broadway to Carnegie Hall, it's a haven for all things dance! Plus, shopping! You wouldn't believe the fantastic stores I found - some even dedicated to tutu-loving fashionistas like me! It's so inspiring seeing tutus take centre stage both on the runway and in performances.
But first, a little historical background, shall we? It’s hard to pinpoint the exact moment when tutus took flight, but by the 1840s, they were pretty much a ballerina’s go-to look! And my goodness, were they frilly! You can’t have a proper tutu without layers of netting, right?
Now, if you’re looking for a tutu masterpiece from 2004, you HAVE to check out "The Sleeping Beauty." It’s still a total crowd-pleaser and showcases tutus like nobody's business. But don’t worry if the whole ‘sleeping beauty’ thing isn’t your jam. There are tons of incredible productions featuring breathtaking costumes, from "Swan Lake" to "The Nutcracker". Every ballet tells a different story through the movement, the music, and – of course – the costumes!
This Tuesday, it's all about tutus. What are we doing to make tutus famous, you ask? Why, sharing our love of pink, of course! If I can get every single person in the world to wear a pink tutu just once, my mission will be complete. Think of how happy everyone will be, twirling and swirling and feeling like a fairy princess. What could be better?
Now, for the real juicy stuff. Today's date has so much happening! On this day, in 2004, the very talented Mikhail Baryshnikov is being awarded an honorary Doctorate of Fine Arts degree from Harvard University. He was, and still is, a truly legendary ballet dancer, leaving behind an iconic legacy on the dance floor! Can you imagine the sheer artistry? Imagine those moves in a pink tutu!
There you have it! A peek into the wonderful world of ballet tutus, as seen through my pink-tinted spectacles.
Until next Tuesday, darlings!
Remember, life's too short to wear a boring outfit! Keep twirling, keep shining!
