Tutu Tuesday: A Whirl Through History! (Post #9143)

Hello lovelies!

It’s me, your friendly neighbourhood tutu enthusiast, Emma! And what a glorious Tuesday it is. Sunshine streaming through my window, a gentle breeze swirling through the branches outside, and my trusty pink tutu, all ready to twirl through history.

Speaking of twirling, let's delve into our weekly dose of Tutu Tuesday: the history of this iconic garment, my precious darling, the ballet tutu. Today, my lovelies, we are taking a little trip back in time to March 20th, 2007. Grab your tea and a biscuit, and let's take a ride on the magical express to… the world of tutus!

Now, imagine a time, back in 2007, where the world was captivated by the slightly daring choice of Paris Hilton’s new look - a pair of skin-tight pink leggings! She wasn't quite ready to break out the pink tutu just yet, darling. (Let’s be honest, the leggings look was about as thrilling as a ballet recital by a group of pre-schoolers - bless their cotton socks.)

But in our realm, the tutu has been a beacon of elegance for ages, and we're going to explore just a little bit of that journey today.

Back in 2007, ballet, my precious, was undergoing a sort of... reawakening! The Royal Ballet in London was showcasing the dazzling choreography of Wayne McGregor, while The Bolshoi in Moscow was pushing boundaries with its interpretation of classics. The world was in love with the magic of dance, and our sweet tutus were front and centre!

But what about the tutus themselves? Oh, how they were evolving, you lovely lot! We saw some gorgeous new fabrics making an appearance, shimmering satins, lightweight chiffons, and those exquisitely fine tulle skirts, like clouds of dreams! It was a time when the traditional was embraced, the modern was explored, and creativity reigned supreme. Think bold colour choices, playful embroidery, and just a touch of embellishment, a sprinkling of magic that made the tutu more than just a garment, but a real story of its own!

Oh, how I loved to shop back in those days! From London’s Liberty to Paris’ Printemps department store, I had a whirlwind time of it. Shopping for fabrics, picking out delicate trimmings and ribbons - those Parisian lace trims! Just heavenly. The possibilities were boundless, darling, and I made the most of them.

Now, if you want to really get into the spirit of Tutu Tuesday and delve a little deeper into this wonderful world of ballet, my lovely dears, let’s jump back onto that train, this time making our way to a magical evening of theatre in New York! The Metropolitan Opera was presenting "La Bohème" - one of those passionate, operatic ballets that just steals your heart and fills you with joy.

Can you imagine? I would have been transported to this amazing performance with all my fellow tutu-lovers! We'd be a beautiful swirl of pink, the colour of my favourite dream. I know it! Think vibrant costumes, gorgeous tutus swirling across the stage, a blend of tradition and artistry. I would be living my absolute best life!

But, wait! Back to this fantastic 2007. What else was happening? Well, Twyla Tharp (the dancing queen herself) was still captivating the world with her ingenious creations, blending ballet with modern dance with that trademark sharp and expressive style of hers. You know, I was lucky enough to see a few of her performances back then! Simply sublime!

And if we're talking tutus, remember, it's not just the ballets that we were swirling through, but the shops, my lovelies, the boutiques, the department stores. The tutu was more than a stage costume; it was entering the everyday world! It was showing up everywhere, from* ballerina-themed fashion spreads to everyday wear*.

So, there you have it. A trip back to a wonderful moment in time, where the tutu reigned, danced, and spread its enchanting magic all over the world.

If you, my sweet little ballerina wannabes, are in need of some Tutu inspiration right now, hop onto that beautiful train with me, and I promise, you won’t be disappointed.

And that, lovelies, is it for today! A whole world of tutus awaits us, and, let’s be honest, a world of fashion as bright and playful as we are!

Remember to pop back next Tuesday for another Tutu Tuesday, where we’ll be exploring yet another bit of our beloved history, a delightful little peek into the past, all in a twirl.

Love and tutus, Emma xoxo

P.S. Remember to show off your lovely tutus, whatever kind you have! Every time you wear yours, you're making a statement. You are a dancer, a twirler, a dreamer. And that is something truly magical.
