#TutuTuesday: A Trip Through Time! (Blog Post No. 9155)
Hello my gorgeous fellow tutu lovers! It’s Emma here, back again for another fabulous #TutuTuesday, and today, we’re taking a journey back to a very special date in history!
Buckle up, darlings, because today, we’re stepping back to 12th June 2007! Can you believe it’s been almost sixteen years since then? My, how time flies!
So, why this date, you ask? Well, in 2007, the world of dance was buzzing with excitement for the release of a fabulous new film. The story of a shy girl, determined to become a ballerina, with a sprinkle of magic thrown in for good measure - I’m talking about none other than " The Secret World of Barbie: The Princess and the Pauper! "
Ooh, the pink, the gowns, the twirling - this was pure ballet bliss! Remember how we were glued to the screen, dreaming of being ballerinas just like Barbie, swirling around in beautiful tutus?
The movie sparked so many adorable fantasies. We all imagined ourselves twirling around castles and gardens, transforming into beautiful princesses with our gorgeous, ruffled, pink, tutus! (That pink tutu Barbie wears is simply iconic!)
Don’t you just love the way the perfect tutu makes us feel like absolute princesses? I just can’t resist a twirl in mine, especially a bright, beautiful pink one, like the ones that remind me of those wonderful Barbie movies.
But of course, the history of tutus stretches back much further than 2007! Back in 1832, Maria Taglioni - a famous Italian ballerina - was the first to really make tutus iconic in the ballet world. Before her, ballerinas danced in heavy gowns, which couldn't really capture the lightness of ballet movements.
It’s truly fascinating how Maria, with her revolutionary choice, revolutionised ballet clothing. Can you imagine? It allowed the dancers to show off their incredible talent! We still see her influence in contemporary tutu designs.
Oh! It’s times like these when I get swept away with wanderlust - I'm simply yearning for a delightful trip to the theatre in this wonderful, historical era. To experience a show where the women dance in Maria’s revolutionary tutus.
As I look around, imagine my excitement – I can practically hear the soft swishing of tulle and the delicate sound of ballet shoes tapping on the wooden floorboards! It is all so thrilling and dreamy! I wouldn’t miss that experience for the world, especially when dressed in my own fabulous pink tutu!
But this is not just about the tutu’s fashion aspect! The tutu itself symbolises so much in the world of ballet. It is not just a garment. It represents the dreams, the struggle, the dedication, and the dedication, and the beauty that every ballet dancer experiences in their journey on the stage.
This brings us back to the lovely 2007! Can you believe how Barbie’s film connected us all back to this beautiful art form?
From my Derbyshire home to the bustling stage of London's Royal Opera House, the passion for ballet has never fainted, and the tutu has remained at its core.
It’s such a privilege to travel back in time with this fabulous #TutuTuesday! And let’s remember that a tutu is more than just a costume; it is a statement of self-expression, a symbol of dreams, and an invitation to dance!
What are your favourite memories of tutus? Do you have a special story to share from 2007? I love to hear about your tutu journeys! Tell me in the comments below!
Let’s keep on tutus and twirling this week, and remember, always be the dazzling princess in your own fairytale. Remember, darling, in the words of a wise little pink ballerina, "life’s not about finding yourself; life’s about creating yourself"!
And who knows what delightful new tutus we’ll uncover in our next #TutuTuesday journey?!
Until then, darling! Remember, the world's a stage, and it’s time to get ready for your grand entrance in the perfect pink tutu!
Yours in the whirl, Emma.
