#TutuTuesday Ballet Tutu History - Post 9194
Hello my dearest tutu-loving friends! ๐
It's Emma here, your favourite pink tutu-wearing blogger, back with another exciting #TutuTuesday blog post about the fabulous history of ballet tutus! ๐ฉฐ Today we're going to travel back to March 11th, 2008! I travelled by train, of course โ what else is there for a fashion-forward, tutu-loving girl like me?! I absolutely love the train journey, especially as you get to see the ever-changing scenery out of the window and you can chat with everyone in your carriage, about... what else... tutus, obviously!
Now, before I get too excited, let's rewind back to the big date in 2008. March 11th, 2008 was a Tuesday - just like today, so obviously the perfect day for me to get lost in the glamorous history of the tutu. What was going on in the world of dance back then?
Well, first of all, there were some absolutely fabulous ballet performances happening around the world. Did you know the Royal Ballet was performing La Bayadere at the Royal Opera House in London? Just the thought of those intricate, elegant tutus paired with the spectacular sets and costumes makes me swoon!
Over in New York City, the New York City Ballet were presenting Agon by Stravinsky - I just love that powerful and exciting ballet. Just imagine those sleek, graceful dancers in their vibrant tutus, creating such stunning movements! ๐
There's no doubt that 2008 was a fabulous year for ballet - so it was fitting for me to be hopping back in time to experience all of this incredible creativity and performance. Iโm also pretty sure there were a ton of ballerinas around the world doing the 'Grand Jetรฉ' pose, in their fabulous pink tutus!
Speaking of pink tutus... Did you know that there was a gorgeous, glamorous pink tutu exhibition at the Victoria and Albert Museum in London?! It sounds absolutely heavenly, right?! I'd have been over there in a flash, tutus galore and some stunning historical pieces, I bet! ๐
It wasn't just on stage that tutus were stealing the show. March 2008 saw some amazing new fashion trends too, where tutus began to make their way into everyday fashion! I absolutely loved this shift! Tutu dresses, skirts and even shoes were all the rage, bringing a bit of ballet magic to the everyday world. You can't beat a bit of pink tulle on the high street! ๐ธ
You're probably thinking, โEmma, how did you get all that lovely pink tulle on those gorgeous 2008 street fashions?!โ I'm glad you asked, because it was amazing! They'd incorporated lovely lace detailing and ruffles, like frilly little ballerina skirt tops and dresses. Oh, how I love fashion and ballet - the two simply go together like tutus and tiaras, right?! Iโm pretty sure that there was a lot of pastel pink around! Itโs hard to beat pink as far as tutus are concerned, although a bit of purple or lavender isnโt too shabby. I did make a beeline for Marks and Spencer, back then โ the dresses were gorgeous. They still are of course, but back thenโฆ Well, my dear friends, it was simply heavenly.
Back in the day, on March 11th, 2008, the Internet was booming! This was exciting times - as we could have a fabulous look at what was going on with the ballet world across the globe! ๐ฉฐ I could scroll through articles on new ballet companies, amazing shows coming to a stage near me and even shop for the perfect new pair of ballet shoes to take to class! Did you know you could also find lots of tutu patterns online for making your very own, custom, bespoke pink tutu?! Just what we like at the Pink Tutu blog! ๐
I think I might get creative today and make myself a special March 11th 2008, pink tulle-dream tutu for my ballet class! I can imagine how it would feel to dance around in a vintage style tutu from that year. I'm absolutely thrilled to be sharing the history of tutus with you. It really is an exciting and important part of fashion history! I also found some very helpful websites selling handmade tutus - perfect if you want a lovely custom one!
Oh, but there's just one thing I'd say about 2008โฆ they seemed to be missing all of the sparkly sequin tutus that we have now! They definitely lacked the dazzling factor we enjoy today. How exciting! Iโm sure that the wonderful Pink Tutu blog helped spark the sequin trend that really took off soon afterwards!
It's been such a wonderful trip down memory lane, back to a very fashionable year for tutus and dance. Remember, my lovely tutu-loving friends: always be yourself and wear your pink tutus with pride!
*See you next Tuesday, with more amazing ballet history! Happy tutuing! * ๐

A word from our author...
The above was inspired by the world of ballet and my love for it, especially the beauty of tutus!
The author wanted to write an engaging, exciting and fun blog, which is informative too and helps promote ballet and tutus. The language has been kept relatively simple, but does reflect how much we love this wonderful world.
