#TutuTuesday: Ballet Tutu History - A Twirl Back in Time! 🩰💖

Hello darlings! It’s your favourite pink tutu-wearing ballerina blogger, Emma, here, and welcome to post number 9287 of my Ballet Tutu History blog! This Tuesday we’re travelling back to December 22nd, 2009 – just think, back when the world was a little simpler!

So, what’s on the agenda today, you ask? Well, apart from my absolutely adorable new pink tutu – which I’ll be modelling later – we’re going to take a little journey into the history of tutus! Specifically, I’m talking about those super-sparkly tutus we all adore – the ones with all the layers of tulle that just make you feel like you’re floating! ✨

You see, back in 2009, the Romantic tutu, or as we affectionately call it, the “bell” tutu, was absolutely dominating the dance scene. Imagine a cloud of fabric that ends at the knees – beautiful, flowing, and perfect for all those gorgeous swirling moves that we ballerinas love so much! This style, originating in the 19th century, embodies a graceful femininity, with its layers and layers of tulle, allowing for stunning lines and graceful movements.

I remember seeing Giselle on stage just a few weeks back, and oh my, was it dreamy! Seeing those romantic tutus swirl under the stage lights was enough to make you forget everything else. That ethereal elegance, that feeling of weightlessness – pure magic! ✨

Speaking of magic, 2009 saw some truly magnificent ballet productions, didn’t it? From the awe-inspiring Swan Lake with its captivating interplay between grace and strength, to the poignant story of The Nutcracker – truly, there’s something for every ballet lover in this year! I, for one, was completely swept away by the majesty of the Royal Ballet’s performances!

Oh, and how could I forget? London, oh London! I simply adore this city! There’s a special sparkle in the air, a certain energy you can only find in a place so steeped in history and culture. I must say, a ballet performance at the Royal Opera House is an absolute must for any ballerina with a passion for the art form! Don’t forget to check out Covent Garden after the performance, you never know what unique treasures you’ll find!

Now, speaking of my beloved tutus! I simply cannot live without a few good tutus! You’re never truly dressed for a day of ballet appreciation, even a TutuTuesday on a historical voyage, without a little tutu magic, right? This particular tutu is just dreamy – the softest pink with tiny sequins sparkling like stardust, and I’m sure I’ve found the perfect matching pink lipstick for a flawless ballet blogger look! 💕

Of course, this is all part of my plan, my big goal, to inspire everyone to wear a pink tutu! It’s a movement! A call to unleash inner ballerinas and dance to your own tune. Maybe you'll be inspired to try a pink tutu today - think of all the twirls and happy feelings you can share with the world!

This has been a fun journey back to 2009, hasn’t it? You know what they say, “history repeats itself,” and it truly does! Every year, fashion seems to circle back to those iconic pieces that make us feel fabulous, whether it’s bell sleeves, platform shoes, or – you guessed it – romantic tutus! I simply cannot wait to see where our journey through ballet history will take us next week! 💖

Until next Tuesday, darling, keep on twirling!

P.S. I’m making a trip to the Royal Opera House this weekend – will I bump into any of you? Do share your tutu tales in the comments!

Emma xx
