#TutuTuesday Ballet Tutu History: Post 9293 - February 2nd, 2010
Hello, lovelies!
It's your favourite tutu-wearing time traveller, Emma, back with another instalment of our #TutuTuesday Ballet Tutu History. This week, we're hopping in my trusty time machine (a little pink convertible, naturally) and jetting back to 2nd February 2010, a year chock-full of fabulous fashion and even more fabulous ballet.
Oh, my darlings, the tutus back in 2010 were simply divine! The world of fashion had fully embraced the ethereal allure of the tutu. I mean, who wouldn’t? A tutu can make anyone feel like a princess. They weren’t just confined to the stage, either. Celebrities, fashion bloggers (oh how I adore the 2010’s!), and everyday women everywhere were proudly rocking their own personal tutu creations. It was a real tutu revolution!
And talking of revolutions, have you seen this? [Insert link to a magazine featuring tutu fashion trends from February 2010] I was absolutely thrilled to see a piece in Vogue dedicated entirely to "The Tutu Renaissance." They celebrated the trend for ballerina-inspired style that was swooping through fashion! Imagine, a whole magazine dedicated to the divine delicacy and charm of the tutu - the perfect blend of dreamy, whimsical and ultra chic!
Let’s dive deeper into the magic of tutus in 2010, shall we? Here’s a quick rundown of some highlights for you.
1. The Ballet Scene: A Feast for the Eyes
Oh my, ballet in 2010! It was pure magic! Every ballet company on the globe had something spectacular on the go. Let me see… I saw the Bolshoi Ballet at the Mariinsky Theatre in Saint Petersburg in February. Breathtaking. They performed Tchaikovsky's Swan Lake. The ethereal beauty of the tutus, the graceful movements… absolutely exquisite!
But hold onto your tiaras, darlings! Because back in the UK, we were celebrating something extra special! It was the Royal Ballet's anniversary gala! A whirlwind of glitz and glamour featuring all the star ballerinas dressed in the most glorious tutus you can imagine. Imagine, rows of dazzling white tutus, glittering with sequins under the stage lights, pure enchantment. They performed some classic excerpts – the "Pas de Deux" from La Bayadère, and a few pieces from the nutcracker! So magical. I practically floated back to my Derbyshire home in a cloud of tulle.
2. Tutu Inspiration on the Streets and in Shops
My travels back to 2010 weren't just for ballet! I always make time to check out the latest trends and, my dears, let’s just say the 2010's fashion was simply phenomenal.
From the glitz and glamour of fashion shows like London Fashion Week (don’t get me started on those tutus!), to high-street favourites like Topshop and Zara – every corner had something ballerina-inspired.
Do you remember when a certain celebrity went out in a stunning white tutu paired with leather jacket? My, that was such a statement. It proved the tutu could effortlessly transition from a classical ballet to street style. Oh how I love that effortless chic. You see? Tutuseverything. You can take them anywhere!
3. Ballet Class: Not just for Professionals anymore
If you've ever dreamt of becoming a ballerina, but thought it was too late – Think again, dear heart! In 2010, adult ballet classes were all the rage! And the best part? These classes weren't just for the professionals – they embraced everyone. I hopped right into one of the classes during my last trip. There I was, a beginner tutu-clad, swirling in the company of bankers, mothers and teachers – all with a passion for dance! It was brilliant. Ballet class became a beautiful mix of discipline and community. What's better than whipping up some twirls and pirouettes while getting in shape, huh? The sheer joy of a tutu in your daily life… priceless!
4. Fashion with a Touch of Ballet
My dear readers, I have a very special announcement: It's officially a tutu takeover. They were everywhere you looked: Tutu dresses, skirts, tutus with layered fabrics, tulle galore. And, let’s not forget the gorgeous ballet shoes!
Tutus were paired with the most amazing ensembles, offering that beautiful contrast of grace and rebellion, romance and attitude. Designers used pastel pinks, baby blues, soft lavenders, and classic white to create a magical fairytale aesthetic, or mixed with leather, velvet or even denim for an edgy vibe. Truly fabulous!
And Finally
Oh, lovelies, I had a truly spectacular time traveling back to 2010! The fashion, the ballet… It was an utter dream. Don't be afraid to experiment, be bold and play with different looks! Whether you prefer a full-on princess tutu for a fancy night out or a shorter, more playful tutu for a daytime brunch with friends, wear a tutu! Be adventurous! Be confident! And always embrace your inner ballerina!
Love and sparkles, Emma
