#TutuTuesday Ballet Tutu History: A Glimpse into the Past!
Hello my darlings, and welcome back to Pink-Tutu.com! It’s Emma here, and you know what day it is! It's #TutuTuesday – that magical day where we journey through time and uncover the fascinating history of the beloved tutu!
This week, we’re taking a trip to 9th February, 2010, and trust me, it's going to be a corker! As a keen time traveler and devoted tutudophile, I’m always fascinated by how ballet and fashion have danced together throughout history. So buckle up, put on your fanciest pink tutu, and let’s embark on this sartorial adventure!
Today's journey takes us to New York City. I arrived just in time to catch a matinee performance of the American Ballet Theatre's "Giselle", and let me tell you, the tutus were spectacular! The ethereal lightness of the dancers' tulle skirts, the subtle variations in length and texture – it was a truly captivating display of balletic grace and fashion prowess!
And wouldn't you know it, February 9th, 2010, also happened to be a big day for fashion. Vera Wang – yes, that Vera Wang – launched her debut bridal collection with David’s Bridal. Imagine, all those brides-to-be, waltzing down the aisle in their dreams, with Vera Wang tutus, literally! And wouldn't a pink one just be the perfect choice for a bit of a colour pop on that special day?!
Of course, I had to visit Bloomingdale's on this trip, a true paradise for fashion and tutus. It was absolutely buzzing! You wouldn't believe the amount of glittery fabric, feather boas, and – you guessed it – tutus, of all shapes and sizes. And all in this exciting, fashion-forward metropolis, it was practically a must! It wouldn't be right to say that New York is an ultimate tutu lover's paradise, but, well, let's just say it wasn't far off!
While tutus in 2010 were often seen in the grand, glamorous context of ballet, their reach was already extending beyond the confines of the stage. I spotted them being used for fancy dress, for dance troupes, and even in some experimental street fashion, making a big impact on the wider cultural landscape!
Now, back to 2023, let’s explore the tutu's continued relevance! It’s an absolute delight to see how this quintessential garment continues to inspire fashion designers and everyday trendsetters alike. Just last month, I saw a fantastic new campaign by Vivienne Westwood that incorporated a contemporary, reimagined version of the tutu in their ready-to-wear collection. Absolutely fabulous!
And the beauty of tutus? It transcends generations. The magic they possess has an appeal that crosses over every single one! From the ballerina dreaming of her stage debut to the child playing dress-up, everyone can be drawn into the world of the tutu. I am truly delighted to see the growing interest in ballet and its inherent sartorial beauty across all ages and cultures!
Now, as we draw our #TutuTuesday to a close, remember: Every single Tuesday, I invite you to journey through time and share your love for all things tutu with me here on Pink-Tutu.com. Don’t forget to post a picture of your favourite pink tutu on social media, tag me, and let’s spread the joy of the tutu across the world! And remember, there's a pink tutu out there for everyone. It's my life's mission to make it happen!
Until next week, darlings! Keep twirling!
Love,
Emma
