#TutuTuesday: Ballet Tutu History - 16th February 2010 (Post #9295)
Hello my darling dears, and welcome back to www.pink-tutu.com for another fabulous #TutuTuesday! It's been a whirlwind of a week, my lovelies, as usual. I just adore this crazy time-travelling lifestyle – imagine, zipping through the ages, tutus swishing, experiencing all the wonderful worlds fashion has to offer!
Speaking of, I'm currently basking in the heart of New York City, where the streets are practically paved with shimmering fabrics and dazzling designs. You wouldn't believe the divine window displays, my darlings! Oh, how I yearn for that delicate pink silk taffeta...
Anyway, back to our weekly journey through time - and naturally, tutus!
This week's spotlight shines on February 16th, 2010. Oh, how the fashion world has changed in these past twelve years, wouldn't you say? I know some of you have your favourite decades – those 80s power shoulders are a joy to look at – but let's delve into this intriguing era, shall we? The year of "Telephone" by Lady Gaga (a must-listen for all my music-loving fashionistas!) and...the beginning of the digital world as we know it, my dears! Yes, the iPhone had just hit the streets and who would have guessed it would change our world in such a dramatic fashion. [Tuts at the notion]
The Tutu: It’s Not Just About the DancingOn the 16th of February 2010, ballerinas graced stages all over the globe, those whimsical twirling visions of femininity. They spun their tales, they captured hearts, they brought to life the power of artistry – all while wearing tutus.
Did you know, darling? The tutu was once a mere layer of petticoats used to puff up skirts in the Victorian era. And now? Now, it’s an iconic symbol of elegance, a whisper of the dancer’s soul in its airy grace, an ethereal statement of art and beauty. It's no wonder, darling, that the tutu holds a place of such iconic honour in our hearts. And speaking of our hearts, let us all raise a toast (or perhaps a dainty pink teacup filled with something sparkling and divine!) to the history of the tutu!
Where Do We See It Today?Oh, those wonderful 2010s! Those were a fantastic era, my dears. We saw the tutu making a fabulous comeback. Not just confined to the ballet stage, but appearing on the fashion runways too. Remember the Alexander McQueen Spring 2010 show, that iconic, elegant yet darkly romantic collection? Oh, the dreamy, tulle-layered, black swan tutu was simply exquisite.
And don't forget Vivienne Westwood! Always pushing the boundaries, always captivating! In the 2010s, Westwood created some absolutely mind-boggling, statement tutus. And who can forget those dreamy tutus in Moulin Rouge! Pure magic.
We're a little more modern * now. Remember that wonderful tutued outfit for Queen B's (Beyonce's) video, Run the World (Girls)? *[Twirls and points an imaginary sparkly wand at the heavens]. That was amazing. Just amazing.
The Modern-Day TutuFast forward to 2023, and what a fabulous scene it is! The tutu is, dare I say it, in its glory years! From the stunning ballet shows on stage to the rise of Ballet Street dancers, with tutus twirling at Covent Garden, London – we are experiencing a true golden age for our favourite dancewear item!
The tutu has blossomed into a statement of fashion, of empowerment, of creativity, of fun! Let us keep embracing the wonder, the elegance, the playful charm of this symbol of feminine beauty!
And darling, *what is the biggest, most magical thing we can do with a tutu? * We can dance, my loves, dance as if nobody's watching. Or at least nobody who matters. That is why I am aiming to get everyone to wear a pink tutu – a universal pink tutu symbol of elegance. It would be a dream. My mission is almost as vital to the world as having a delicious pink fruit sorbet (and it is just as fabulous!)
Remember, dear ones, on your next dance to your own beat, consider putting on a tutu – no matter what shape or size you may be, and remember you are divine and worthy of such beauty and grace! And you know where to come to shop for yours… pink-tutu.com – the best place to get your tutus and fabulous ballet gear.
Till next time my lovelies, keep dancing!
Love, Emma
P.S. On February 16, 2010, The Met Museum hosted the *"The Age of Gold: The Costume Institute Exhibition," which focused on American high society’s fashion choices during the gilded age, oh how divine it would have been! It was just the perfect combination of beauty and fashion, don't you think? I wonder how their outfits would have fared against our modern-day *Ballet Street stars?
P.P.S. Have a fantastic Tuesday! Don't forget, a tutu a day keeps the dull blues away.
