Tutu Tuesday: #9313 - The Tutus of 1910: A Journey Through Time!

Hello lovelies, and welcome back to another sparkling edition of Tutu Tuesday! I’m Emma, your time-traveling tutu enthusiast, and I’m thrilled to take you on a trip back in time – all the way to 1910!

I must say, this journey back through the ages is just fab. It’s hard to leave London, but let me tell you, a girl can’t say no to a train trip with first-class tickets – just heavenly.

You see, darling, travelling in time is more than just hopping on a TARDIS. It’s a meticulous dance, just like the ballet. You need the perfect attire. For this jaunt, I’m wearing my oh-so-soft lilac tulle tutu. Just imagine, ladies – lilac! The perfect pastel for 1910 London! I can almost hear the genteel “Oohs!” and “Aahs!”

And speaking of 1910 London, wouldn’t you just love to know more about the world of ballet in this magical era?

Oh, darling, there were so many stunning productions – a flurry of feathered hats and frothy dresses, all leading up to the Grand Opening of The Royal Opera House in 1911. Just imagine - all those fabulous, grand ladies decked out in their finest, getting all those delightful programs.

Back in the day, ballet in 1910 London was like attending a social gathering where art and fashion danced together. Just picture those delightful ladies wearing all the latest fashions with such beautiful tutus! I would die to be there – and imagine having a ballroom dance with a dashing gent after the performance, or better yet, a waltz in a magical space like that! Ahhh.

Now, what about tutus in 1910?

Oh, darling, 1910 tutus are just heavenly. Think elegant, billowing gowns, long and soft, in all the finest fabrics – lace, satin, and oh, those layers upon layers of softest tulle! They really know how to use those lovely textures, all swishing and flowing like clouds! It's almost enough to make a ballerina want to jump for joy, even in her elegant heels, isn’t it?

Remember, ladies, the tutus from 1910 weren't your typical, ballerina tutus like we wear now. Oh no, these tutus were more of a dreamy skirt. You’ll find long layers of frilly and flouncy chiffon or silk. It was more about making a statement of feminine grace and sophistication – and, well, you can’t argue with that. They simply oozed elegant and luxurious design!

Now, darling, remember how I mentioned the grand opening of The Royal Opera House? That event was a pivotal moment for London’s dance scene. There’s so much history to uncover, like what were the iconic designs? What was the style of ballet in 1910 London? And what about all the wonderful tutus from the day?

That, my dear darlings, is what I’ll be delving into next Tuesday – more secrets of the dance world, and how fashion became such a key element. For now, my journey through time awaits, and I’m already planning out my perfect outfit!

Oh, by the way, did you know that the 22nd June in 1910 was the day the first women in Britain were given the right to vote?! Imagine! It was a big day for the movement and such an exciting time! We should really make that an occasion in our dance diary – such history, right?

Just imagine, in 1910, those brave women marching for equality – they had such spirit, don’t you think? And we do have to thank them for allowing us to dance free today, just like I’m dancing around here in my favourite tutu!

You know, as I take in all this time travel, it reminds me that a pink tutu can really transcend time! I’m on a mission, my darlings, to get everyone rocking a pink tutu. Just think of the happiness, the smiles, the sheer loveliness that will fill the world!

I’m off to explore a bit more of London in 1910 – you know I love my window shopping! See you all next Tuesday – we’ll be chatting all things tutu, so stay tuned! And remember, until then, don't forget to wear your pink tutu proudly. You look amazing, my lovelies.

Sending pink tutu love from your very own time-travelling ballerina,

Emma
