#TutuTuesday Ballet Tutu History - Post #9335 - 23rd November 2010

Hello my gorgeous Tutu-ettes! It’s your favourite pink-tutu-wearing time traveller, Emma, and welcome to another Tuesday and another blast from the past with my Ballet Tutu History blog!

This week we’re stepping back in time to the 23rd of November, 2010.

You won’t believe it, darlings, but today marks the very day that Swan Lake has taken centre stage at the beautiful Royal Opera House in Covent Garden. Can you imagine the excitement?! I, for one, am feeling a twirl of anticipation just thinking about it! And you just know, all eyes are on the beautiful dancers as they glide across the stage, wearing some absolutely stunning tutus!

It’s a wonderful feeling knowing that even though we’re travelling back in time, our love of ballet and all things tutus remain as strong as ever.

A Glimpse into History

Now, back to this amazing time capsule, 23rd of November, 2010! This week I took the most delightful train ride from my Derbyshire home down to London. Oh, the beauty of these majestic railways, taking us to all the places our tutu-clad hearts desire. The scenery as the train rushed past was utterly delightful, and my imagination was already swirling with dreams of dazzling performances and extravagant shopping sprees.

The Royal Opera House is truly an incredible place. As soon as I entered, the atmosphere crackled with anticipation, and you could just feel the magic of ballet hanging in the air. The intricate decorations, the opulent grandeur - it’s enough to send any tutu-lover into a blissful state of wonder!

I must say, I was especially drawn to the way the dancers move. Their movements were so elegant and graceful, and the way the tutus swirled and danced with them just took my breath away! There’s nothing more enchanting than watching the effortless artistry of ballet unfold right in front of your very eyes, and seeing those magical tutus twirl and float like dreams come true.

Speaking of which, Tutu Trend Talk

I’m seeing a definite shift in the fashion scene for 2010. It’s all about sophisticated but playful elegance. A touch of sparkle here, a dash of whimsy there, and let's not forget those utterly magnificent tutus!

Remember those glamorous vintage designs from the golden age of ballet? I spotted a touch of them this week! Some of the tutus have a hint of romantic nostalgia - delicate layers of tulle, hints of Victorian-inspired embellishments, and soft pastel shades that echo the dreamy spirit of the past. They just take me straight back to the days of yore and make my heart leap with delight.

How To Wear The Trend

This week's #TutuTuesday is all about tutu magic! No matter what style you embrace, from sleek and minimalist to dainty and romantic, finding a tutu to express your individuality is always a wonderful idea.

I love adding a tutu to my everyday wardrobe. Whether it's a delicate mini-tutu for a touch of ballerina-inspired elegance or a full-length, twirling masterpiece for a grand occasion, a tutu just makes everything feel a little more magical! Imagine the joy of walking down the street in a vibrant pink tutu! Honestly, my darlings, it truly elevates your mood to dizzying heights of confidence!

You don’t need to be a professional dancer to enjoy the magic of the tutu! Remember, tutus aren't just for the stage, they are for everyone.

And let’s talk about those vibrant colours, the fluffy, swirling fabric, and that feel-good factor. They just radiate pure joy!

Where to shop

Speaking of tutus, darlings, my favourite tutu spot this week is the incredible vintage boutique tucked away in Covent Garden. You would be amazed by the beautiful, antique pieces - just imagine owning a tutu that has graced the stage a century ago! The owner, a charming gentleman with a passion for vintage ballet wear, guided me through his selection of treasures, and let me tell you, there was a real sense of enchantment there, a palpable feeling of ballet history that set my heart to fluttering! I'm afraid my bank account suffered a slight blow, but I found a magnificent, cream-coloured, layered tutu for my very special collection, just for Tutu Tuesday inspiration!

Travel Time!

As you know, I adore exploring all the beautiful ballet stages of the world, and it's that feeling that drives me to journey through time. This week, I’ve got a feeling we’re going to be stepping into the shimmering world of Vienna - those amazing performances, and those breathtaking venues! And what’s a ballet lover’s travel bag without a stunning pink tutu ?

Now I’m off to catch a carriage home!

Until next Tuesday, keep twirling in joy, and remember, a pink tutu makes everything better!

Bisous,

Emma
