#TutuTuesday: A Twirl Through Time! (Post #9336)

Hello my darlings! Emma here, your resident pink tutu-wearing time traveller, ready to whisk you away to a world of twirls and tulle!

This Tuesday, I’ve hopped in my trusty time machine, (it’s actually a refurbished vintage carriage, but it gets me places!) and landed right here in… wait for it… drumroll November 30th, 2010!

Oh, what a thrilling time! This period was bursting with ballet brilliance. From the dazzling dancers gracing stages across the globe, to the ever-evolving fashion world, there was so much to inspire. I especially loved that, despite what some might say, tutus were very much in and proudly so! You wouldn't catch me in anything else, that's for sure!

A Bit of Ballet History

But before I tell you about my latest adventures, let's take a quick spin back in time to understand the tutu’s incredible journey.

While ballet itself has a rich history spanning centuries, the tutu as we know it, darling, was born much more recently. We can thank the legendary Marie Taglioni for this iconic garment. This Parisian ballerina, with her incredible grace and lightness, helped propel ballet into a new era of ethereal beauty and, importantly, this new 'tutu' style allowed her to execute complex steps with newfound freedom and fluidity. It revolutionised how the world saw ballet!

It wasn't all frills and sparkles though! This revolution didn’t come without a little controversy at first. Can you imagine? Shocking! I bet it made a great gossip topic in the salons back then.

These early tutus were significantly shorter than the grand, multi-layered masterpieces we see today. Imagine the scandal! Bare legs in a ballroom! What would Mrs. Bennet have said? (Speaking of balls and ballrooms, wouldn’t it be magical to waltz around in a perfectly-pink tutu? It's certainly a fantasy of mine! twirls dreamily)

Through the years, tutus evolved alongside the art of ballet itself. From the romantic, single-layer tutu of Taglioni's day to the more dramatic, multiple-layered tutus of the late 19th century, these delicate garments reflected the ever-evolving art of ballet. They truly became an essential element, much like a pair of trusty dancing shoes, and we all know that a ballerina can't be without them.

A Modern Twirl

Now, fast-forward to 2010, where we find our favourite art form in a wonderful, colourful and very modern place. And let me tell you, I was not disappointed. From the intricate designs of the Royal Ballet in London to the innovative choreographies popping up in smaller theaters and dance studios, ballet was thriving! I caught a performance of "Swan Lake" at the Bolshoi Theater in Moscow - the sheer artistry of those dancers was breathtaking! Each move, each leap, a triumph of skill and beauty! They really know how to show off the grandeur of the tutu! I was practically glued to my seat.

Speaking of my seat, I even managed to catch a ballet street performance near Covent Garden in London. That's the thing about London, it's so wonderfully eclectic and exciting. You never know what treasures you’ll find! I found some pretty exquisite hats at a shop called Liberty! A pink one with tulle trim for the occasion. That's the magic of traveling through time! The unexpected finds always excite. It's like a giant dance floor with fashion, music, and the unexpected always waltzing through it!

Tutus for Everyone

And of course, no trip would be complete without a visit to a few wonderful shops to find the most stunning tutus for you and me! Imagine, all my lovely readers sporting a beautiful, pink tutu! That would be a dream come true. Pink power! We can take over the world one pirouette at a time! You wouldn't need to be a professional ballerina to rock this look, just a bit of confidence, a playful heart, and a good pair of comfortable dance shoes, naturally!

You see, darlings, wearing a tutu is more than just wearing a garment, it's about embracing the joy of expression. It's a reminder to twirl through life, embrace our inner sparkle, and to always believe in the magic of a perfect twirl! I know I've mentioned this before but wearing a pink tutu just makes you feel better about the world. The colour pink is synonymous with cheerfulness. You can be stylish in your pink tutu - that’s another reason for you to join me! A wave of pink

I can’t wait to hear all your #TutuTuesday tales! Please send me your stories! Did you try a pink tutu, what did you buy? Did you go see a ballet performance? Remember, it's all about sharing that love for tutus, for ballet and for a little bit of magic!

Stay twirling, my lovelies, until next time!

Love,

Emma xox
