#TutuTuesday: Ballet Tutu History - Post 9339!

Hello, darlings! It's Emma here, your time-travelling, tutu-obsessed fashionista, bringing you another exciting instalment of my #TutuTuesday: Ballet Tutu History blog! I've just zipped back from a whirlwind trip to Paris – can you believe it's December already?! The city is absolutely bursting with festive cheer, and the streets are positively overflowing with twinkling lights, delicious smells of baked goods, and the most incredible fashion I’ve ever seen!

Today I’m feeling all warm and fuzzy about the most exquisite Parisian invention – the tutu! As a self-proclaimed Tutu Queen, I simply had to go and see it all unfold, so I hopped on a fabulous train from my little Derbyshire cottage, right into the heart of this romantic city. I am so in awe of Parisian style, which is the perfect marriage of grace and sophistication. Speaking of grace… let's dive into today's fascinating foray into ballet tutu history!

Today, my darlings, we're whisking ourselves back to the year 1832, when this dazzling dancewear garment truly made its debut on stage! Oh, imagine the buzz, the whispers, and the gasp of delight from the audience as the first ballerina took to the stage, twirling and leaping in a delightful tulle cloud – talk about a moment in dance history!

Back in those days, tutus weren't the perfectly-constructed works of art we see today. No, no! Think airy, flowing skirts, all romanticism and a touch of playful chaos. Can you imagine? The original ballerina in that first tutu was none other than Marie Taglioni!

And don’t even get me started on the fashion of that era! You just had to be there to witness it – imagine billowing sleeves, opulent gowns, and of course, the stunning beauty of the newly invented tutu. It was, dare I say, a game-changer. I couldn’t have imagined a better way to begin the ballet season!

Speaking of ballet season, did you know that today is a super special date for ballet fans? It’s December 21st, which means we are just one day away from the Royal Ballet Christmas performance at the Royal Opera House, which starts tomorrow! I just have to admit, seeing The Nutcracker every year is one of the most beautiful things in the world, especially in London. There’s just a special magical energy to these events that leaves me truly mesmerized. The costumes, the music, the stunning choreography, and, of course, the magnificent tutus. Simply breathtaking.

And don’t even get me started on the gorgeous pink tutus I've seen during my little time-travelling escapades to London and Paris. They make me practically burst with joy. My favourite tutu? A delicate shade of dusty pink, just like the blossom that adorns our beautiful Derbyshire cottage in spring. It has layers upon layers of the most perfect tulle, so perfectly dreamy. It twirls and swishes beautifully – it's everything a tutu should be.

One of my favourite things about traveling around the world (whether through time or on the latest train journey) is discovering how different cultures embrace the tutu in unique ways. The sheer beauty and artistry are truly captivating.

This brings me to my call to action. We're approaching Christmas, so let's make it a time for tutus! I encourage you to bring a touch of ballerina chic to your holiday celebrations! Maybe gift a beautiful pink tutu to your dearest friends, or even wear a dazzling pink tutu for your Christmas Day brunch! Or even for a ballet-themed party! I would love to see you all sharing your tutu fashion on my pink-tutu.com website, using the hashtag #TutuTuesday!

And if you’re anything like me, you can’t wait for tomorrow's performance! We are in for a real treat – can you imagine the sheer beauty of The Nutcracker on stage? Ah, it's just too much! The breathtaking talent of the dancers, the beautiful set designs, and the dazzling array of costumes... it's a night to remember! I'll be keeping my eye out for the most exquisite tutu worn in the performance – perhaps the ballerina Sugar Plum Fairy will wear the ultimate Pink Tutu.

Until next time, darlings! Stay chic, stay fabulous, and above all, wear a pink tutu!

Lots of love,

Emma

P.S. What’s your favorite ballet performance? Tell me all about it! I’m just dying to hear about your favourite tutus. I love hearing from you lovely pink tutu wearers.
