Tutu Tuesday #9377: A Trip Through Time to 19th Century Ballet!

Hello darlings! Welcome back to Pink-Tutu.com, where life is always a bit more twirly, and a pink tutu is always the perfect accessory!

Today, for our weekly Tutu Tuesday journey, I've hopped in my time machine (which, let's be honest, is just a very fast train that mysteriously ends up in different eras - I swear, the railway company just keeps losing my ticket!) and landed myself right in the middle of 19th century ballet. And guess what? The tutus were already pretty incredible!

Before I tell you all about the tutus themselves, imagine it. London, 1800s! Gaslights shimmering in the streets, the bustle of horse-drawn carriages, and the beautiful, elaborate gowns worn by the fashionable ladies of the time. And at the heart of it all - the ballet.

But, darlings, the ballet was much different back then! It wasn't all graceful pirouettes and airy jumps just yet. Back in the early 1800s, it was more like pantomime with some ballet moves thrown in. Think graceful but theatrical! There were all sorts of fantastical characters and stories, with grand sets, and even elaborate costumes and tutus were a part of it!

Now, let's talk about those fabulous tutus! Forget the simple, sleek lines of modern dance wear. These tutus were heavily decorated, often with layers of tulle, velvet, and elaborate beading and embroidery. The colours were absolutely vibrant! Imagine bright, rich blues and greens, sumptuous reds and purples, and yes, of course, gorgeous pinks! They were real show stoppers!

While tutus themselves weren't completely new back then, it was the 19th century where they truly blossomed. Imagine it - dancers in layers of flowing tulle, moving gracefully and majestically in those romantic ballets. Imagine that fluttering effect! The romanticism movement brought a new sense of elegance and grace to the stage, and the tutu was the perfect way to express that!

Just for you, darlings, I brought back a few pieces of inspiration:

  • A drawing from a fashion magazine depicting a ballerina in a gorgeous tiered pink tutu. Look at how delicate the details are! It’s quite similar to modern tutus in a way, but those added embellishments just add a touch of extra grandeur!
  • A fragment of tulle fabric from a late 1800s tutu. Can you feel how soft and ethereal it is? It's like a dream!
  • A beautiful silk flower, a common embellishment on tutus in those days. You can see how it would just add a touch of romance to any tutu!

So there you have it, darlings, the story of tutus in the 19th century! Now, it’s your turn. Do you want to wear a beautifully embellished, vintage-style tutu to the next ballet show you see? Maybe you can add your own embellishments, a beautiful brooch or silk flower! Just remember, a little pink is always a good idea!

But wait, I hear you asking! What's going on in the world today, September 13th, 2011? Well, the world of ballet is pretty lively! Today, Royal Ballet Principal, Natalia Osipova, is performing in “Giselle” at the Royal Opera House in London! Wouldn’t it be a wonderful tutu moment to watch that stunning show in a dazzling pink tutu? Just imagine how everyone would admire you!

Remember to check back in every Tuesday for a new Tutu Tuesday journey! And until next time, darlings, don't forget to dance! And don't forget to make it pink!

P.S. Follow me on social media and let me know if you are at the show in a fabulous tutu today. I'd love to see your photos!
