#TutuTuesday: Ballet Tutu History – Post 9428
Hello my darling tutus! It's Emma here, your resident pink tutu-wearing time-traveling fashionista, back for another glorious #TutuTuesday blog post! This week, we're taking a trip back in time, all the way to 4th September 2012! I know, it feels like a lifetime ago, but trust me, it's going to be a real treat for all you ballet lovers!
Before we start, let's get right to the core of our #TutuTuesday mission - the Tutu! Oh, I simply adore those delicate layers of tulle, how they whisk around in the air, creating that magical, dreamy silhouette! I just dream of everyone dancing about in their own pink tutus, imagine how utterly fantastic that would be?
Anyway, I must pull myself back from my fantasising, and tell you about my journey back to 4th September 2012! I landed smack bang in the middle of London and, let me tell you, it was buzzing! This particular day marked the opening of the Paralympic Games! Now, I don't know about you lovelies, but for me, anything with the word "Games" in it spells excitement, joy and all sorts of fantastic events to wear a pink tutu to, but I'll leave that up to you.
Back in 2012, the fashion was totally fabulous, and of course, I was all about finding the best tutu looks to inspire me. Thankfully, London was a treasure trove of tutu loveliness.
First on my itinerary, the glorious ballet extravaganza “The Royal Ballet: Romeo and Juliet.” This ballet is always a show-stopper, but on this special evening, there was something extra-magical in the air! They even did a modern adaptation for this run - can you believe that? Honestly, how utterly exciting!
After my ballet experience, I headed straight to Liberty in the heart of London, a gorgeous shop that had the most amazing vintage tutus and the most fabulous vintage and modern dresses! Now, I'm all for modern-day style, but there is nothing quite like finding a truly unique piece from a bygone era! I must admit, I was completely seduced by all the fashion treasures I discovered there!
4th September 2012, also marked the opening of the V&A fashion exhibition: “Alexander McQueen: Savage Beauty,” which I had to visit! Alexander McQueen was the most extraordinary, creative designer. The exhibit was filled with his bold, eccentric fashion designs, which totally captured the mood of the time, and, wouldn’t you know it, one of his pieces even included tulle!
But wait! There's more! The Queen's Diamond Jubilee Concert was held at Buckingham Palace this same evening! Now that's a special event! It was quite the day for exciting occasions and I even spotted some ladies in tutus – I mean, is it really an occasion without a pink tutu?
Right, my loves, I hope this trip back to 4th September 2012 has inspired you to explore your own fashion history! You might just discover a few treasures of your own, like those fantastic vintage tutus that I fell in love with at Liberty!
And always remember, the world is your stage and a pink tutu is your magic wand! Let your fashion spirit shine bright and spread the tutu love! Until next Tuesday, my dearest!
Lots of love, Emma x
