#TutuTuesday Ballet Tutu History - Post 9432
Hello my lovely tutu-loving darlings! It's Emma here, your pink-loving, tutu-obsessed time-traveling ballerina blogger, bringing you another dose of #TutuTuesday Ballet Tutu History!
This week, I'm whisked away to a rather spectacular date – October 2nd, 2012! A time of fabulous fashion, exciting ballet performances, and a little bit of magic in the air, as the Olympics wrapped up in London just a few weeks prior. Now, you know how much I love a bit of a royal occasion and that date was simply brimming with it. Can you even imagine all the tutu possibilities!?
Let's dive right into the history, shall we?
Now, in the shimmering world of 2012, tutu fashion was in a most delightful phase, let me tell you! The romantic, billowing, traditional tutu was still a firm favourite, with all its airy loveliness and that magnificent swirl as you twirl across the stage.
But the exciting thing was, we were also seeing a new wave of experimentation in tutu design. Think sharp angles, layered tulle, daring colours, and even some funky modern materials thrown in for good measure! Designers were getting super creative with the shapes, making them more geometric and structured. You can imagine the joy of seeing a dancer with their legs perfectly outlined by a cascade of pink tulle – absolutely mesmerising!
Imagine, I popped on down to a lovely theatre in London – well, I travelled down via my favourite method, a rather glorious, vintage railway carriage! – to witness a splendid ballet production of Giselle, the beautiful tale of a love that crosses the line between the human and supernatural realms. Talk about captivating!
Oh, and a rather thrilling sight I caught on that date - the ballet Sylvia, a spectacular romantic tale with absolutely heavenly costumes! A truly awe-inspiring show - I found myself daydreaming about crafting some of the gorgeous feathered and jeweled pieces! It was as though the ballet stars themselves were wearing moving pieces of artwork, glittering under the stage lights.
Of course, no talk of 2012 ballet would be complete without mentioning the absolute phenomenon that was the Royal Ballet, my dear! The choreography, the breathtaking dancing, and the sheer brilliance of the dancers - it really did make my heart soar! I spent several blissful hours in the Royal Opera House, soaking it all in and soaking up the glorious atmosphere!
One thing that really struck me during my trip to 2012 was the incredible talent bursting forth in street dance and theatre performances, a beautiful example of ballet finding expression outside of the classical world. The fluidity of their movement, the captivating power of their stories – it was incredibly moving! They weren't all wearing tutus, but their dance was still pure art! And honestly, how fabulous is it to see ballet finding new ways to enchant the world?
Now, speaking of enchanting... oh, dear reader! Imagine my utter delight at stumbling upon the most incredible shop in all of London - an absolute treasure trove of exquisite dancewear and tutus. Not only did they have the classic styles in every colour you could dream of, they were overflowing with those new, experimental designs – they were truly divine! Let's just say, my wardrobe gained a few rather magnificent new additions!
Speaking of my own dear wardrobe… the pink tutu! I think I even wore a slightly iridescent one on that date. It shimmered like fairy dust and felt as soft as a cloud. So perfect! Don't even get me started on how dreamy those pale pink satin ballerina shoes were! Honestly, 2012, you certainly did love your pastel hues and dainty embellishments.
I know you love to hear all about the finer details, darling, so here’s a glimpse of fashion trends on that very date in 2012:
Fashion for your lovely legs
- Sheer tights! Yes, absolutely vital. Perfect for showing off those lovely, lithe limbs and giving that graceful air to your outfits.
- Dance shoes, with all sorts of sparkles and patterns! Ballet shoes, Mary Janes, and those gloriously high platform pumps with their elegant straps, simply irresistible.
- Ankle boots - in a mix of chic leather, suede, or the new chunky heel styles - all lovely to pair with the year's A-line skirts and midi-dresses!
The top of your stunning self - Blouses with lace detailing, or sheer sleeves and blouses with a feminine flair! And remember the oh-so-gorgeous bow! I couldn’t get enough of the pretty satin and silk bow accents that season - they were everywhere! - Big, voluminous knitwear. Yes, it's the perfect time for cosy, snuggly knits that would pair beautifully with your delicate skirt, darling!
Of course, the most crucial addition to your 2012 ensemble? A tutu! Remember, the key to looking fabulous is to simply channel your inner ballerina. With a little bit of grace, a dash of confidence, and a fabulous tutu, you'll be the most dazzling belle at the ball!
So, what's on the horizon this Tuesday? Who knows where my time machine will take me! The adventure, my lovelies, is simply divine, with new experiences, inspiring fashion, and of course, more tutus than you can shake a leg at. And until then, never forget – be kind to yourself, embrace your inner ballerina, and wear a pink tutu with pride.
See you next Tuesday, and don’t forget to check in on my blog for even more tutu-licious news!
