#TutuTuesday: Ballet Tutu History - 2013-04-30
Welcome, lovelies! It's Tuesday again, which means it's time for another whirl around the world of tutus, and wouldn't you know it, I'm writing this week's post from the most fabulous of all places - Paris! Ooh la la, I can already hear the croissants baking, smell the scent of lilies in the air, and just imagining all the amazing fashions I'll be seeing later this week.
Now, before we dive headfirst into the tutu archives, let me just tell you, Paris is the absolute perfect place for tutus. You practically trip over them on the street! I've already spotted some divine little ballerinas, skipping to ballet class, looking like little sugar plums themselves. Honestly, I just want to snatch them all up and whisk them back to Derbyshire with me!
But we're here to talk about history today, right? So let's hop aboard our trusty time-travelling train (and of course, I'm wearing a stunning pink tutu, complete with a jaunty feather boa!), and whisk ourselves back to...
2013-04-30
Can you imagine it, darlings? 2013! The world of fashion was on the brink of such fantastic things, so much change, so many amazing possibilities. Just think of the colour trends, the clothes, the hairstyles! Sigh Oh, it was such a fabulous time to be a fashion-loving ballerina!
So what's happening on 2013-04-30? Well, let's take a peek at the tutu trends, shall we?
Tutus on the stage:
Oh my goodness, it's a symphony of silk and feathers! At the Paris Opera Ballet, the stunning ballerina, *Sylvie Guillem, is dancing the lead role in Swan Lake, * and darling, let me tell you, she's rocking that classic tutu. It's absolutely exquisite, flowing, light, and with every graceful movement, it's like a dream coming to life. Honestly, I almost burst into tears, it was so beautiful!
But we can't just talk about the swans, right? Over in New York City, The New York City Ballet is performing "Jewels", which is oh so fancy - think emerald green, ruby red, and sapphire blue tutus, darling! This kind of artistry and colour palette just blows my mind. And imagine, this piece is being choreographed by Jerome Robbins - a true genius of ballet, and what a fabulous ballet legend!
And don't you just love seeing ballerinas on the silver screen? I completely adored "Black Swan", with the breathtaking Natalie Portman - just look at the scene where she first performs with a black tutu, utterly mesmerising! It's all about that drama, that raw emotion, the stunning costumes.
Now let's talk tutu fashion, my darlings.
Remember those fashion houses with those amazing clothes that really set trends for years to come? Well, I adore Karl Lagerfeld, he's so brilliant, always pushing the boundaries of fashion, and just the dreamiest fashion visionary! Just think, Chanel in 2013 featured a tutu in a way that looked, well, absolutely exquisite. Imagine, a tutu layered under a gorgeous Chanel coat, adding just the right amount of femininity and chicness. It was utterly magical, a classic take on a modern look!
And, of course, we must mention the wonderful Victoria's Secret Fashion Show! Now, who hasn't wanted to be an Angel? These incredible ladies embody femininity, glamour, and that confidence that comes with rocking a gorgeous set of wings and an incredible pink tutu - just like me!
But I just couldn't resist making my way down to the Cartier boutique on Rue de la Paix in Paris. Such a stunning display of incredible jewels ! I just had to have a browse and see what all the fuss was about! You know, darling, I saw an utterly divine pink diamond ring that would make a perfect gift to add to a ballerina's favourite tutu for an utterly glamorous finishing touch!
This brings us to the ultimate question - why pink?
Oh darling, pink is just so perfect. Feminine, playful, absolutely magical, and well... a ballerina’s dream colour! I know some people find it too sweet or frilly, but honestly, if I was in the audience watching my favourite ballerina dance in a stunning pink tutu, I’d be captivated. You see, I'm absolutely certain, pink is a power colour for dancers.
Oh my darling, this journey through time has been absolutely fabulous, full of fashion, culture, and lots of beautiful tutus.
Now it’s time for a spot of tea in a Parisian café! Don't you think I deserve a special treat? After all, I’m on a mission to get everyone, every single person, in the entire world to wear a pink tutu.
Until next time, keep dancing, keep twirling, and most importantly, keep sparkling!
With love and twirls,
Emma
