Tutu Tuesday: Ballet Tutu History - #9463

Hello my lovelies! Emma here, and welcome to my little corner of the internet, where pink tutus reign supreme! Today we're taking a trip down memory lane, to Tuesday, May 7th, 2013, because what better day to talk about ballet tutus than a Tutu Tuesday?

Today was extra special, because it's the anniversary of the first ever tutu, designed by Marie Taglioni in 1832! Imagine - a wispy white tulle confection that defied the voluminous, restrictive skirts of the day, allowing for movement and grace like never before! Can you even believe they used to wear corsets under those heavy skirts?! shudders I wouldn't be able to dance a single pirouette!

Marie was such a revolutionary, wasn't she? Just like us today. Imagine a world where everyone was able to twirl and flit about in a pink tutu! That's my ultimate goal, and it starts right here, on this little corner of the internet!

And guess what? On this very day in 2013, the Royal Ballet in London opened a brand-new season, with a new production of La Sylphide! Talk about serendipity! I mean, who wouldn't want to see the very ballet that launched the tutu into fame? I've seen it, of course. You know I couldn't resist travelling back in time for that performance. And it was amazing! All that graceful movement, the soft fluttering of tulle, and the sheer joy of seeing ballerinas so comfortable in their tutus. It filled me with such hope for our tutu-filled future!

While we were in London, we had to see a West End show! And let me tell you, seeing a real, live production in a historic theatre - well, it makes my toes tingle just thinking about it! This week, we had the pleasure of watching a charming revival of Singin' in the Rain. It wasn't technically ballet (though we did get to see a stunning dance number!), but the energy, the vibrancy, and those fabulously glamorous costumes (hello, showgirl feather boas!), made it an absolute dream.

Oh, and did I mention shopping? Of course! A tutu needs her fashion, don't you know! We took a lovely afternoon strolling through Knightsbridge, with its fabulous department stores, soaking in the gorgeous outfits and browsing through the exquisite collections of jewellery.

I absolutely adored seeing this antique shop on Piccadilly, just a stone's throw from The Royal Ballet, with rows upon rows of delectable vintage tutus, each with a story of their own. It was pure tutu-inspiration! I snagged a lovely little sequined creation - it's perfect for my next vintage ballet performance - more about that later!

The next day, after breakfast at our darling little bed & breakfast, complete with fluffy pink towels and an enormous collection of teddy bears, we boarded the train back to our current time. I simply adore travelling by train, wouldn't you agree? There's something so enchanting about gazing out the window at the landscape changing as the miles whizz by, the rhythmic clackety-clack of the tracks... it's a soothing melody that's just perfect for getting those creative juices flowing!

So that's what we did on this Tutu Tuesday, darling! Remember, if you love ballet, if you love pink, if you love everything beautiful, we can all embrace the magic of a twirling pink tutu together! So why don't you go on, and don that dreamy tutu! You know, the one hanging in your wardrobe begging to be worn! It will unleash your inner ballerina, I just know it!

Until next Tuesday, stay sparkly and twirl-worthy!

Your Emma x
