#TutuTuesday: Ballet Tutu History โ€“ 2014-01-21 (Post 9500!)

Helloooo my darling tutu-lovers! It's Emma here, your resident pink-tutu-clad time traveller, and I'm so excited to share with you another fascinating bit of ballet tutu history, all in honour of this week's #TutuTuesday!

I've just returned from a whirlwind trip to Paris, the capital of fashion, of course! Can you believe it's only January and the Spring/Summer 2014 Haute Couture shows have already started? My, my, it's a crazy life I lead!

2014 - Where are we with Tutus?

Well, in 2014 the tutu is still very much a mainstay in the ballet world. It's no longer quite as heavily ruffled as the gigantic ones we saw back in the 19th century, but it's definitely still a must-have for ballerinas. I even saw a lovely little pink one (it was slightly less pink than mine, but I do like to keep it interesting) on a dancer in a modern piece - so tutus are becoming even more versatile. It's exciting!

Tutu Trivia!

Did you know that in 2014, Tutu Tuesday actually trended on Twitter? Can you believe it? It felt like the world was embracing the tutu, just like I always knew it would!

Today, January 21st, 2014:

On this very date, the Royal Opera House in London had a stunning production of Giselle on their program! Giselle, for those who don't know, features an amazing mix of classic tutus for the "wilis" (ballet spirits) and an almost Grecian-inspired look for Giselle herself. Oh, I wish I could have been there!

A Little Fashionable Nostalgia

The tutus of today, even though they're simplified, still pay homage to the grand romantic tutus of the past. It's all about that iconic look โ€“ a touch of elegance and romance, with a touch of history too! After all, the history of the tutu goes all the way back to the early 1800s when dancers, looking for more freedom of movement, decided to shed the traditional, restrictive skirts! Imagine, a world where dancers were stuck in tight-fitting, bulky clothing - shudder! Thankfully, they rebelled with those airy, flowing tutus, creating an image of grace and athleticism that still inspires to this day.

The Allure of Pink

My favourite colour, as you all know, is pink, and my tutu obsession stems from that! The colour pink, with its romantic connotations and feminine energy, was made for the tutu. Don't you agree?

Pink makes me think ofโ€ฆ:

  • Roses: Delicate and beautiful, like a ballerina's form.
  • Cherries: Juicy and delightful, just like watching ballet!
  • Cotton Candy: Sweet and fluffy, exactly how my tutu should feel!

But seriously, pink is more than just a colour. Itโ€™s a mood, an attitude! It screams confidence, self-love, and a playful spirit โ€“ the perfect expression of everything that ballet and tutus represent to me!

Pink Tutus: A Trend for Everyone!

I dream of a world where everyone is comfortable embracing a bit of pink and tutu fun! Who wouldn't want to express themselves with a bit of flouncy loveliness? Weโ€™re all beautiful in our own ways and tutus can be just another way to celebrate our inner divas!

Until next week, darlings, keep spreading the tutu love!

P.S. Remember to follow me on social media for more tutu-licious adventures!

Love always,

Emma
