Tutu Tuesday: Ballet Tutu History - #9529

Hello my darling tutu lovers!

It's Tuesday again, which means it's time for another trip back in time to explore the wondrous world of the ballet tutu! This week, I'm whizzing back to 12th August 2014. Imagine, a whole six years before the rise of the glorious Ballet Street troupe that has made contemporary ballet so exciting! I just had to put on my most dazzling pink tutu and hop aboard the Eurostar for this adventure!

Now, 2014, oh my, what a year! Ballet was absolutely blooming with all sorts of fabulous fashion trends! Just look at the stunning Royal Opera House productions. They had this gorgeous revival of Swan Lake, the costume design was a vision in feathers and tutus. You just couldn't take your eyes off the dancers, it was truly spectacular! I was particularly taken by the white, fluffy, romantic tutus for the swans - such delicate femininity.

And don't even get me started on Giselle! It was on at the Royal Ballet, and everyone was talking about the tutus. So dramatic, with lots of layers and flounces. They even featured some amazing tulle - so ethereal, it was just magical!

But let's talk tutus, my lovelies, because this is Tutu Tuesday! In 2014, the classical tutu was definitely a force to be reckoned with! Imagine: the epitome of elegance and graceful movement! There were all sorts of variations though - from the billowing Romantic tutu with its airy lightness, to the more structured tutu, like the one famously worn by Margot Fonteyn. Oh, to have twirled on stage like that!

Of course, fashion is always changing. And the beauty of it all, is that we still see tutus experimented with all the time! Some modern choreographers really push the boundaries! I've seen some super exciting interpretations, even some amazing modern street-style tutus popping up in fashion houses and even at music festivals - very exciting indeed!

And this is what I love about fashion, darlings: it is constantly evolving. It is a beautiful dialogue, weaving together tradition and modern styles! It reminds me a little of ballet itself, where dancers constantly strive to improve, adding their own individual flair, making the classics new again.

Now, before I get carried away by all things tutu, I need to talk about today’s date. 12th August, 2014 - the date of some pretty exciting events, by the sounds of it. The British Royal family were in Scotland, enjoying the festivities of The Royal Highland Show, no doubt a delightful mix of tradition and style, wouldn't you agree? I wouldn't be surprised to see some lovely pink kilts out and about, perhaps with a smattering of tutu flair.

As for me, I'll be attending a rather fabulous performance this evening at the London Coliseum. This weekend's the premiere of a brand new production - the much anticipated Cinderella! I've heard whispers about a particularly enchanting, glimmering, multi-layered tulle tutu for Cinderella. Oh, darling, how I can’t wait!

I've spent the whole day window shopping, I even bought a few new things myself, a few lovely lace tutus and a new sequined leotard - just the perfect attire for my adventures. I might even take a stroll through Covent Garden for a spot of street theatre. One thing’s for sure, I’ll be keeping my eyes peeled for a good tutu fashion moment, I’m always inspired by new trends!

And that’s all from me for this week's Tutu Tuesday!

Keep twirling, keep dancing and keep spreading that tutu love!
