#TutuTuesday Ballet Tutu History - 9663: The Whirlwind of Fashion - 7th March, 2017
Hiya darlings! It's Emma here, back for another week of #TutuTuesday. As you all know, I'm absolutely obsessed with tutus. They're the epitome of grace, femininity, and let's be honest, they're just gorgeous. But, like any good fashionista, I love knowing the history behind my beloved attire!
This week, my time machine took me to 2017. We were in Paris, the City of Lights! Imagine - cobbled streets, the smell of fresh pastries wafting from every boulangerie, and a cacophony of chatter in every café. And guess what? Everyone was wearing something chic! It felt like I'd stepped straight out of a fashion magazine. I, of course, went for my trusty pink tutu with a black beret for that touch of Parisian flair. I have to tell you, my outfit certainly turned heads, and trust me, a girl in a pink tutu never goes unnoticed!
This is the perfect moment to pop in a quick tip: When choosing your perfect pink tutu, make sure it suits your personality. Do you want to be a graceful, romantic ballerina or a quirky, playful fashion icon? Choose a shade of pink that embodies your inner princess.
Speaking of Paris, on this particular Tuesday, the Parisian ballet world was abuzz with excitement. I couldn't resist heading over to the Opera Garnier to see "La Bayadère," an iconic ballet by Marius Petipa. I must say, the tutus were simply divine. All those fluffy, frothy layers - utter perfection!
And I wouldn't be a true #TutuTuesday blogger if I didn't talk about the tutu trend in general back in 2017. The ballet world, as always, was flourishing! While traditional tutus remained the quintessential staple, the more experimental and modern dancers were pushing the boundaries. You had tutu variations made from everything from shredded fabric to metal! Crazy, right? I felt inspired just watching it all!
You can always tell when a fashion trend's taking off – it’s the year that even the most unassuming items suddenly pop up everywhere. 2017 saw this trend happen with the ballerina flats, making a comeback thanks to their effortlessly elegant appeal. These little gems, perfectly flat but effortlessly chic, were worn with everything: dresses, jeans, even suits.
In the world of clothing shopping, it was a wonderland! My eyes were popping with excitement as I spotted everything from sequined tutus in every colour imaginable to ballet-inspired clothes that looked amazing on the streets! But the real excitement, you guys, was the growing popularity of pink. And not just any pink. It was millennial pink – that perfect pastel, almost peach-hued, blush pink that just screamed sophisticated yet playful! Honestly, if my time machine had been a little bigger, I would have purchased every pink tutu I found.
My darling time-travelling experience took me through streets bustling with stylish individuals wearing anything from brightly coloured, vintage dresses to edgy modern outfits that gave me serious sartorial inspiration. But the highlight of my journey was this Parisian Ballet shop. It was filled with every possible ballerina accessory, including beautiful fabric flowers for my hair, glittering tiaras for my head, and tiny ballet shoes to add a dash of Parisian flair to my everyday outfits.
The one thing that stood out was the array of tutus on display. It was an absolute dreamland! Not only was the quality amazing but there was so much variety, from the traditional romantic to the contemporary avant-garde. The store owner told me about a new trend in ballet footwear that was sweeping through Europe - Pointe Shoes for dancing in! It seemed that pointe work was becoming even more accessible, allowing dancers to achieve even higher jumps. I must say, I was mesmerized by the intricate craftsmanship that went into these beautiful pointe shoes.
The ballet world in 2017 was overflowing with excitement and creativity, much like our wonderful fashion world! But there’s more! After visiting the ballet store, my journey led me to the "Pink Lady" ballet show, an absolute spectacle of pink hues. Everything was pink – the lighting, the set design, the dancers’ costumes! It was pure joy in a whirlwind of twirling and beautiful pink tutus. They even served pink macarons at the after-party. Can you imagine, darlings? Pink macarons. Heaven on Earth!
My week in 2017 showed me just how much the fashion world, especially the ballet world, has evolved. I returned with renewed vigour and a fresh perspective. So, the question is, what’s next for tutus? They've become an icon of ballet history and have made a magnificent transition into the modern fashion world. But we need to keep pushing those boundaries, be daring with design, and inspire the next generation of dancers. After all, our aim in life is to get everyone to wear a pink tutu.
Don't forget to share your own #TutuTuesday posts and show off your amazing tutu creations!
Catch you all next Tuesday, darlings, until then, may your day be full of twirls and sparkle. And, of course, may your tutus be as fabulous as you are!
Yours truly,
Emma
