Tutu Tuesday: #9692 - A Twirl Through Time!

Hello my darling dancers, welcome to this week's #TutuTuesday on www.pink-tutu.com. Today we're taking a grand jeté back in time to September 26th, 2017. My time-travelling tutu has whisked me to the vibrant heart of New York City, the city that never sleeps...and oh boy, do I have a lot to tell you about!

As you know, tutus have a special place in my heart, they're like magical swirling clouds that bring joy and a little bit of fairy dust to every step! I love my tutus – I wouldn't be caught dead without one, even in my time-travelling escapades!

The streets of New York buzz with energy! I just have to have a browse in Bloomingdale's, their selection is absolutely divine! There's this heavenly blush-pink satin tutu with shimmering beads, just perfect for a soirée at the Metropolitan Opera House...Oh, how I dream of performing in one of those stunning ballets with all their opulent sets and extravagant costumes!

Tutus Through Time

Speaking of costumes, let's talk history! While I always feel happiest in a tutu that dances with my heart, my fascination with the story behind this iconic garment never ends. In fact, the first proper tutus we know of were actually introduced quite recently - in the 1830s! Can you imagine ballet dancers in their heavy long dresses back then? I wouldn't know where to even begin to pirouette!

Thankfully, Marie Taglioni, a legend of ballet, decided to shorten the dancer's skirt and let their legs fly! It was revolutionary! The tutus, much shorter and lighter than the earlier forms of dance clothing, helped ballerinas like Taglioni leap and twirl with more freedom.

From those early "romantics" with their floating silk skirts, tutus have come in so many delightful forms! The 'classic' romantic tutu was all about flowing lightness, almost as if the ballerina could take flight at any moment. Then came the "pakita" style, perfect for the quick steps of Spanish dances with its layered and frilly form.

Today's ballet dancers have a fantastic array of tutus to choose from, even a shorter style called "demi-pointes". There's a tutu for every ballet and every mood! And I have to admit, my heart beats just a bit faster whenever I see those amazing tutus designed for international competitions - like tiny constellations sparkling under the stage lights. I think I may need a little peek in the ballet costume section...just a quick glance...promise!

September 26th: Ballet & Beyond

But wait! Back to the here and now of September 26th, 2017, where the dance fever isn't just on stage. Today, there's a fantastic street performance planned for Madison Square Garden! Imagine - an open-air stage with brilliant dancing and fabulous costumes - absolutely spectacular! Now, I might not have a chance to perform myself, but who needs that when you can be a part of the amazing, joyful energy?

Later on, I'll be watching a dazzling ballet at the Lincoln Center – what a privilege to see world-renowned performers, every movement a tiny miracle. I absolutely love those little details, those pauses between steps, where the magic takes over. Maybe I can steal a few tips for my own dancing.

A Pink Tutu for Every Day

Even though my heart will be in the ballet studio tonight, I always love exploring the different ways a tutu can brighten the world! Just yesterday, I saw a young girl with a gorgeous sparkly pink tutu skipping down Broadway - such joy and delight! It’s moments like those that remind me how special it is to see the world through the eyes of a tutu.

Remember my darlings, a tutu isn't just a garment, it's an expression! It's a way to spread happiness, twirl with freedom, and embrace a little bit of that whimsical magic that lives within all of us.

That’s all for today, darlings! I hope you enjoyed this little peek into New York in 2017. Stay twirly and remember, every day is a new opportunity to wear a pink tutu!

Until next week! Emma www.pink-tutu.com
