Tutu Tuesday #9693: A Little Trip Through Time to a Ballerinaā€™s Dream

Hello darlings! It's Emma, your resident tutu aficionado, back with another #TutuTuesday adventure. Today, I'm going to take you on a trip through time to delve into the glamorous history of our beloved tutus! Get ready for some sparkly secrets, darling, as we journey through the ages!

As many of you know, I'm obsessed with tutus. They're airy, ethereal, and oh-so-pink (naturally). But do you ever wonder, my loves, how these fabulous frills got their start?

It's not a secret that tutus were first made for ballet! Today is October 3rd, 2017, and you wouldn't believe what was going on back then...in the world of ballet! A major event, a grand celebration of movement and artistry, was taking place in London, England! A breathtaking performance of the classic ballet "Giselle," showcasing the iconic tutus we still see today! The whole city was buzzing with excitement about the show.

"Giselle" itself is fascinating! It's this dramatic, moving story of love, loss, and a girl transformed into a Wilis (a mystical spirit) ā€“ talk about a powerful performance, right? And get this, the story goes all the way back to the 1840s!

So, where did these beautiful tutus come from? They werenā€™t just a whim, you see. The history is surprisingly practical! Early tutus were long and floor-length, much like a full, romantic dress. However, in the 1800s, this all changed! Itā€™s a story of artistic expression meeting practicality, if you can believe it! Ballet dancers wanted to move freely, expressing every nuance and graceful move of their art form. Can you imagine having your legs weighed down by yards and yards of material?

Itā€™s that practical approach, my loves, that led to the shorter, more practical tutu. Think of the classical romantic ballet style! Think ā€œLa Sylphideā€! Those ethereal tutus let the dancers truly shine! In the 19th century, the tutu transformed into the recognisable symbol we see today. Now, dancers could literally take flight!

Oh, and don't you worry about the length! Itā€™s all about style! Longer tutus might have been around earlier but they can also still be a part of today's amazing designs! It's about the movement, my darlings.

What I adore about the history of tutus is its evolution. This evolution perfectly shows how artistry and practicality intertwine, pushing creative boundaries and celebrating the beauty of human movement. That, to me, is what a truly iconic garment is about!

Let's step into the world of "Giselle." Today's tutu, you see, is an amazing evolution from the longer and more dramatic designs of the 19th century. Theyā€™re all about showing off the legs and every delicate pirouette. This style still captivates, but what really stands out is the way it moves and flows.

For this #TutuTuesday, imagine those graceful, floating steps in a ā€œGiselleā€ performance, with those layers of airy fabric swirling as a ballerina moves! Itā€™s absolutely breathtaking, and truly sets the tone for how important these tutues are to the art form. Theyā€™re essential to every captivating story we get to see onstage!

Now, as a passionate lover of all things pink (and tutu, of course!), I just had to see this "Giselle" performance for myself! The theatre was a feast for the senses! The entire audience was enthralled! A wave of energy rippled through the crowd with every pliƩ, every turn, every elegant pose. The ballet truly came to life.

Don't worry, I didn't forget my pink tutu! I chose one with extra tulle and glitter, with soft shades of pink and champagne that shimmered beautifully under the theatre lights! My heart simply leapt with joy seeing the dancers performing so flawlessly, showcasing every bit of those breathtaking costumes! It was the ultimate pink ballet princess dream!

My travel by train to the grand city was a whirlwind, I'm sure you know. It's a trip that always feels like a fairytale! Seeing the iconic London skyline in all its glory! London is, in my humble opinion, the very heart of the theatre world! Thereā€™s a magic in the air, donā€™t you think? I especially love all the grand theatres. It feels so glamorous, especially in those beautiful outfits.

After the performance, itā€™s no surprise that I was in a shopping frenzy. Those beautiful London boutiques offer so much magic for a girl who loves all things pretty! There was no way I could resist! So many gorgeous dresses, silk scarves, and oh-so-stylish coats. You'll be surprised to know that, I picked out a beautiful blush pink, silky scarf - simply to top off my love for pink!

A pink scarf, a ballet performance, a beautiful pink tutu and a historical journey back in time...does it get much better? If there's a pink tutu in your future, donā€™t hesitate! Go embrace those magical layers and show your love for the art form in the most sparkly and fabulous way possible!
