#TutuTuesday: A Whirlwind Through Ballet Tutu History - Post 9699

Hello my darling tutu lovers! It's your favourite pink-clad time travelling ballerina, Emma, back again with another trip through history for our #TutuTuesday! I've got my trusty travel satchel packed full of glitter and excitement, ready to dive into the wonderful world of the ballet tutu.

This week, we're stepping back to 14th November 2017. Ah, what a fabulous year! Remember that stunning rendition of "Swan Lake" by the Bolshoi Ballet that stole the breath of everyone in Moscow? Absolutely breathtaking, darling. Now, grab your teacups and your ballet slippers because we're going to have a right good time with a touch of tutu nostalgia!

You see, this very date holds a special place in tutu history because, darlings, it's all about the magic of ballet performances! The stage was alive with twirling, leaps, and those breathtaking pirouettes that make you just swoon The thrill of watching the dancers flit across the stage is a real gift, it truly inspires us all to embrace our inner graceful selves, right? I have to admit, though, watching the London Symphony Orchestra perform was equally mesmerizing!

Before we dive into this week's history, let's just admire these absolutely exquisite tutus we’ve got in this time. Have you ever seen such delightful pink hues and intricate embellishments?! There’s this glorious vintage tutu at a charity shop back in the 2020s I'm completely smitten with. They just don't make them like that anymore, darling!

Tutu history – it's so exciting!

Let's rewind a bit, shall we? The 19th century, the birth of the romantic tutu – and what an era for fashion, wouldn't you say? We can thank Marius Petipa, the renowned choreographer, for those beautiful tutus worn by the ballerinas of the time. It was a glorious time for tutu design – long, flowing layers of tulle – just utterly mesmerising. Remember how romantic they were, with that perfect silhouette for an ethereal look. Just stunning!

Speaking of romantic, just the other week, I visited the Paris Opera. They have this spectacular "The Sleeping Beauty" ballet. It’s all about royalty and tutus – a dreamy combination! Can you believe that, right at the centre of Paris? Talk about a perfect ballet escape! Oh, how I love watching those exquisite dancers float effortlessly on pointe! Pure artistry!

Back to our present - 14th November, 2017 - tutus have definitely evolved! Just think about those fabulous tutus you see on dancers like Misty Copeland! Short, bold, and oh-so-powerful. The designs are so intricate and detailed – modern dancers push the boundaries, exploring contemporary styles, using tutus for expression, and that’s so inspiring. And did I tell you about the gorgeous ones I saw at the Royal Opera House in Covent Garden last year? Absolutely spectacular! It was all sequins, glitter and that iconic tulle. I was absolutely dazzled!

So, where was I? Back to 2017, our present-day rendezvous! I was completely captivated by the Royal Ballet’s performance of "Giselle" - such exquisite dancing, those intricate tutus, those heartfelt emotions… Pure ballet perfection, I say!

We've certainly seen some big changes in tutu fashion, darling! They are no longer limited to a single design, embracing all sorts of exciting styles, shapes, and textures. Remember that stunning yellow tutu I spotted in a theatre in 2020s London, with the intricate swirls of tulle and feathers. Absolutely fabulous! We can now enjoy tutus for all body types, and they look divine on every single person!

The evolution of the ballet tutu - it's been a wonderful journey! We've been through it all, darling. From those romantic, swirling tutus of the 19th century to the modern, dramatic pieces of the 21st century.

Just like ballet, the world of the tutu is a constant adventure. A little something for every single one of you out there, my sweet tutudledlings!

So, I'm asking you – what's your favourite kind of tutu? Which style of performance do you love most? Share your tutu loves in the comments! And let's remember to celebrate this enchanting piece of ballet history!

And, because we're all about tutus, darling, this is Emma signing off from Derbyshire, with one last message: Go out there and wear a tutu today! It’s the most delightful way to celebrate the magic of ballet. You can wear it in the streets, while you shop, at a café – just anywhere! Don’t forget to share your style and grace with the world! Let's embrace the twirl together!

Until next time, tutu-licious friends!

Yours truly,

Emma x

P.S. I absolutely love taking the train through England for all my #TutuTuesday adventures. You’ve gotta love the views and those comfy train carriages. Just like stepping back in time and feeling utterly glamorous, don’t you think?

And for all my lovelies, please remember: I get to travel through time all thanks to my magical ballet performances. It's my way of sharing my love for tutus with the world and inspiring you all to embrace your inner ballerina.
