#TutuTuesday: A Trip Through Time! 🩰💖
Hey lovely ladies, it’s your favourite pink tutu wearing blogger, Emma, here with another edition of #TutuTuesday! This week, I’ve whisked myself back to November 7th, 2017, in none other than... drumroll... the glorious, ballet-loving city of Paris! Just thinking about those stunning cobbled streets, chic cafes, and, of course, the incredible dance scene, makes my heart skip a beat.
Today marks post number 9698 on the pink-tutu.com website - can you believe it? We've been exploring the history of the tutu for years now, and each journey just makes me adore them more and more.
You know I’m always buzzing to explore the history of this amazing piece of garment, and to discover the many fascinating facets of the tutu – after all, it’s such a captivating dance companion! So, where did our magical journey to Paris land us today?
Tutu Trends of 2017
Firstly, a little peek at what Paris was wearing in November 2017. I loved how much ballet was a part of Parisian fashion, from the elegant, ethereal designs of Chanel to the whimsical charm of Dior. And, of course, the street style was brimming with stylish ballet-inspired looks - think ballet flats, graceful tulle skirts, and a touch of that iconic pink we all adore. It’s no surprise that Parisian style often draws inspiration from the elegance and artistry of ballet!
Parisian Ballet PerformancesOh, Paris, the heart of dance! I absolutely had to take in a performance at the Palais Garnier, a magnificent example of French grand architecture. Seeing the Opera Garnier's incredible interior, its gilded ceilings, the vast space, the shimmering chandeliers – it was all so spectacular and truly felt like the ultimate venue for a breathtaking performance.
This year's program included "Giselle", the perfect ballet to make your heart ache with its bittersweet romantic story. Then there was the fiery, captivating "Carmen", filled with emotion and drama - perfect for a Friday evening. The costumes in both ballets were incredible!
After the performances, it was on to a little Parisian shopping spree! Finding my way down the Champs-Élysées, I felt a rush of excitement as I caught glimpses of the newest designer collections. Of course, my eyes were peeled for anything ballet-inspired – a beautiful, silk-like tulle skirt for a touch of whimsy, perhaps, or some elegant pointe shoes in shades of champagne and blush. I managed to snaffle some lovely little ballet-inspired gifts, perfect for a special friend or even just for myself – no judging, please!
Tutu History: From The Classical Era to Modern DesignAnd of course, being on my #TutuTuesday mission, I delved into the world of the ballet tutu history – and you won’t believe the interesting discoveries I made! In 2017, the ballet world was abuzz about a new wave of contemporary choreography. And what do these creative new ballets all need? You guessed it: a modern tutu, redesigned to complement these bold new styles!
Think innovative designs, bold colour palettes, and creative shapes. Some designers chose to accentuate traditional elements, playing with layers, textures, and volume for a classic-meets-modern aesthetic. While others chose to explore completely new concepts, opting for minimal, sleek silhouettes that flowed effortlessly across the stage, leaving traditional silhouettes far behind. But no matter the design, the tutu remained an integral part of the contemporary dance landscape, offering the perfect platform for artistic expression.
The Magic of the TutuIt was this captivating blend of traditional elegance and contemporary flair that truly got me thinking – about the way the tutu has been able to evolve and adapt to new dance styles, even whilst maintaining its place as the iconic, enduring symbol of ballet. I mean, when you really think about it, that's truly inspiring, don't you think? A tutu embodies not just graceful movement, but a timeless representation of femininity and grace. And what's better than combining elegance with artistic expression, huh?
Time Travel Treats! Before my time machine brought me back, I did something extra special - I visited the iconic Ladurée salon, savouring its exquisitely designed, colourful macarons. I have to admit, I may have tried just one too many! You just can't resist a pink macaron, can you? They were a fitting sweet end to a day in this wonderful city.
Until next Tuesday...So, ladies, what do you think of this TutuTuesday? Don't forget, it's not just about wearing tutus, it’s about embracing the elegance, joy, and freedom they represent!
And, before I whizz back to my Derbyshire cottage, I leave you with a thought-provoking question: How will tutus evolve in the future? Is a bright neon green tulle with a tutu top next on the cards? Perhaps holographic tutus? Share your thoughts below! And remember: spread the joy of ballet with your own #TutuTuesday snaps on social media.
See you next week, lovelies! Until then, embrace your inner ballerina and let the spirit of the tutu guide your way!
