#TutuTuesday: A Twirl Through Time! (Blog Post #9714)
Hello my lovely tutu-loving friends! š©°š It's Tuesday again, which means it's time for another thrilling adventure through the fascinating history of the ballet tutu!
I'm Emma, your friendly neighbourhood pink tutu enthusiast, and today we're travelling back to 27th February, 2018, a date filled with thrilling theatre premieres, bustling city streets, andā¦wait for itā¦Tutus!
Today's trip's going to be a whirlwind, because, oh my, 2018 was so fabulous for dance!
Before I tell you all about the glorious fashion, let's jump on a train to London, the capital of fashion, culture, and of course, tutus! (Just like my heart!) We're hopping on to the Eurostar for a fabulous high-speed adventure! It's so exciting!
Weāve landed at St Pancras International station ā what an absolute architectural marvel, isn't it? Weāll have a spot of tea at Kings Cross, then we'll stroll towards the Royal Opera House.
Speaking of glorious architecture, imagine being on a grand stage bathed in soft lighting, a breathtaking spectacle of movement unfolding in front of your eyesā¦ The Royal Opera House is truly where dance dreams come alive! And today, we're lucky enough to be there for a very special performance: "Swan Lake".
That's right, darling, a classic ballet about a beautiful swan! Now, it may seem strange to you that something so beautiful can have a tragic twist, but thatās the brilliance of art, isn't it? There are so many exquisite ballet tutus to behold at the Royal Opera Houseā¦ delicate layers of tulle floating gracefully as ballerinas glide across the stage ā truly, the magic of ballet is in its motion and detail.
While you are there, just picture all the grand, dazzling performances in the Royal Opera Houseās history - a symphony of tutus that would surely be captivating! Even back then, the art of the ballet tutu had been perfected with the most beautiful designs, elegant silhouettes, and carefully crafted layers of delicate, sheer fabrics. Isn't it a treat?
Now, I hear you say, āEmma, but it's a chilly February! Do those lovely ballerinas actually wear that little bit of tulle on stage?!ā Thatās where the clever costume designers shine ā They design for comfort too! Thereās layers and layers of silky tights, warm and snug under the beautiful, billowing layers of the tutu ā like a featherbed of delicate fabric. The fabric itself, too, is very special. Thereās not just one kind! Thereās different styles for different dancers and styles, like, the tutu-in-the-middle. I call it āthe peek-a-booā look, just so darling. They are all beautiful!
Speaking of darling, while in London we absolutely must take a peek at Liberty London. Now this placeā¦ is magical! It's bursting with beautiful fabrics, patterns, and colors, including a fab collection of the most exquisite laces, embroideries and trimsā¦ the perfect inspiration for your own "DIY tutuā projects. That's my motto: "If you want a pink tutu, go make one yourself!" It's quite empowering.
Back in Derbyshire! (Our beloved home of beautiful green hills!) We must not forget Derby Theatre, an absolutely enchanting venue with fantastic plays, musical productions and ā wait for it ā ballet performances.
For 2018, Derbyshire is alive with the sounds and movements of dance, celebrating both classical and contemporary performances. So we're going to see a ballet about something completely different from āSwan Lake.ā What you say? Something a little moreā¦. funky? Something that celebrates modern times, maybe?
I bet youāre just dying to find out more, my little darling tutu-lovers! But before we move to modern, funky dancing, letās talk about the other things going on in 2018. The whole world, thatās what Iām saying! The internet! My most treasured source of fabulous fashion inspiration and tutu-licious discoveries! Thatās where I find my new fashion crushes, all the top stylists and makeup artists, and all the ballet bloggers, my dear, darling friends! It's absolutely revolutionary. It gives all of us access to so much knowledge and artistry in the world of ballet. I've actually learned a great deal about the evolution of tutus! Isn't it wonderful to have all this shared knowledge? It really takes you back to what itās all about: expressing beauty and creativity!
I hope you all join me on my next #TutuTuesday! Stay fashionable, darling. Keep dancing!
Until next week!
With love,
Emma
