#TutuTuesday: Ballet Tutu History - A Trip Back in Time!
Hello darlings! Welcome to another fabulous #TutuTuesday, where we explore the history of this utterly divine garment – the ballet tutu. This week we're taking a trip back to the wonderful year of 2018 – quite the time!
For those of you who are new to Pink-Tutu.com, this is my blog where we travel through time – not on the London Underground, but through the magnificent history of tutus. It's a chance to learn how these magnificent little things have evolved over time.
Remember, my dear readers, that pink tutus are my ultimate aim – to make them a universal fashion choice. I firmly believe that with just a little bit of tulle, a whole world can be transformed. Let's get back to the year 2018… and what was happening on the third of April…
Tutu Tuesday: 2018 - The Year of The Ballet and the Pink TutuRight then, back to that springy April day. What was I doing in 2018? You'll be pleased to hear I was attending one of the most incredible ballets, which, in my opinion, really captures the essence of ballet – Giselle, a truly spectacular classic set in 19th-century Germany, featuring a mystical forest (not the Derbyshire countryside, you understand). I felt a bit like the fairy queen with all the dancing sprites in pink and silver.
My, what a time it was! I can't imagine the chattering going on as the stage lit up, all the gossip and hushed tones - and me sitting in the stalls, feeling just perfectly stylish in a beautifully pale pink, full-length tulle, tutum. My goodness, a *classic, darling*.
To find some perfect ballet-going outfit inspo – and perhaps be transported back in time just a little, why don't we dive into some fashion history?
2018: Fashion trendsAs my fabulous readers know, fashion, and more particularly, tutus, are close to my heart, and 2018 was all about the tutus, darling, and you can bet your bottom dollar there was a splash of pink everywhere.
But we need to look beyond the ballet stage. Tutums were everywhere, you couldn't get away from them, not even on the streets, if you can believe it! There was a fabulous trend - where would the fashion world be without these? – all about “Romantic femininity.”
The look of 2018 was very much the romantic tutum style – think Princess Diana. You can’t go wrong, even today, with a floaty, romantic silhouette – with maybe a hint of ruffles and puff sleeves, to boot. This particular style even influenced other genres and even those glorious designers like Chanel. I just adore this trend – Romantic Femininity.
Fashion for the Ballet Stage - 2018So let’s talk a little bit about tutu evolution - they weren’t all in pink you know, there were all sorts of colours and shapes on the stage – and not always in those beautiful, romantic tutus! It’s amazing what has come and gone in this fashion arena - and yes, in the last century they’ve got increasingly fabulous.
And then in 2018 – what was happening in the fashion world? Remember all that lovely ballet tulle, it was definitely a statement. From the ballet studio to street fashion - all about tutus – with all their romance and their beautiful layers, it made tutus the perfect must have, all about expressing that feminine energy.
From Stage to Street StyleFor those of you who've ever seen a ballerina on the stage, the tutum seems impossibly beautiful – an object of admiration – and when you consider it has a fascinating, long history – from classical tutums, to those beautifully crafted* romantic tutums with the flowing fabric, there's quite a lot to know and appreciate - don’t you agree ? But 2018 – it was more about fun and fantasy.
More About ThisFor example:
Classical Tutums: If you like to dream about the very beginnings of tutums, they began in romantic tutums. The original romantic tutu style was more comfortable, perfect for twirling around with freedom and ease, very much about grace and poetry. A really good tutu, you know the one, has to work, even as art. I adore these tutums because they express the very essence of the dance. A wonderful addition for your personal style, wouldn't you agree?
Romantic Tutu Styles: Romantic tutu styles emerged in the early stages of tutum development - perfect for giving that graceful and romantic effect, which brings us back to those classic designs which are loved for their timelessness. You've got to adore them – it's all about those delicate tulle layers and beautiful shapes, just made for dancing!
Romantic Ballet: And finally, the romantic ballet - there’s more than just Giselle. There’s also that breathtakingly beautiful and incredibly magical ballet by the one and only Pyotr Ilyich Tchaikovsky, his wonderful Sleeping Beauty. I must say that, with all of its stunning visuals, it has the ability to really stir up some great romance, don’t you agree? But back to 2018: what happened in 2018 – on the fashion scene ? * The Tutum Goes Pop!* * * It had some great, glorious, fashion, tutums going crazy on the streets of London. I adored it! I'm sure we could call this the year of the ‘tutu-boom.’ And don't just think about that tutu look, the romantic look; remember the street-wear. They were quite the spectacle - and all for that sweet feminine vibe. The romantic tutu, my dear, became all about that *girly fashionista and, of course, it had to have that tutu feel, just to sparkle a little – like a fairy, don't you think?
A Tutu Fashion Fix:So let’s take this back to 2018 and to my very favourite tutu shop…
The tutu shop in Soho – “Dance and Sparkle.” * (it’s been re-vamped since 2018, of course). I really think, even though there were no *Tutums in pink, the fashion scene was just waiting to be a pink paradise; and in 2018, it wasn’t quite there yet. That’s just how I saw it at the time. Maybe in 2023, pink might just make a comeback ? I’m definitely looking forward to it, darling, let’s hope they start popping up on the catwalks, for this pink princess…
You’ll have to look for this amazing little boutique, tucked away on that iconic little street in Soho.
Some Interesting Tutu Tidbits:There’s still something exciting about tutus; what can I tell you about 2018, they just look perfect don’t they, on all those beautiful ballerinas – those lovely little ballerinas from around the world? But 2018 was pretty hot in the fashion world – the fashion magazines loved the tutu style, just imagine – even the popstars couldn't help but add that fabulous little tutu touch! And, darling, there are a lot more to tutums, so more, when I say more than we think, and to tell you a little something more.
There are lots of ways to express the romance, you've just got to have a tutum in pink; and just the same – all that *romance, it really is what I've come to expect from tutums – don't you agree, my little loves? I can’t imagine my wardrobe without one. They make any occasion special - don't you agree? So there you have it, 2018 – what a year to travel back in time – for us, but we've learned that those romantic tutums have quite a bit more history than we'd first imagined, and tutus will always be in fashion, won’t they. I know, I’m hoping that you have your favorite tutum or maybe even a pink tutum; but you know that’s up to you my lovelies - you know it just won't do without a pink tutu. Let’s go* my *lovely tutum wearers - and make **history !
