Tutu Tuesday #9726: A Whirlwind Through Time! (It's Tutu Time!)

Hello darlings!

It's your favourite pink tutu-loving, ballet-obsessed blogger, Emma, here! Back again with another whirlwind trip through history, because – guess what? – It's Tutu Tuesday! I know you're all excited to dive into the wonderful world of the tutu! I mean, it's impossible not to be excited! This week, our time machine is taking us back to May 22nd, 2018. And, as always, you'll just have to trust me – it was an absolutely fabulous day for tutus!

But before we take our big leap into the past, let's talk fashion! You see, I am absolutely besotted with this year's summer collection from a little boutique I found in Notting Hill. Think sunshine, frills, and yes, you guessed it – the most divine pink tulle. I got a couple of these gorgeous creations and I swear, every time I put them on I feel like I could float. Speaking of floating – I absolutely love the new ballet class I joined last week at the Royal Opera House. The teachers are fantastic, and you wouldn't believe the amazing range of classes – from barre work and repertoire to contemporary and ballet conditioning. My legs may be burning a little, but the progress I'm making is phenomenal!

Right, let's rewind back to May 22nd, 2018, shall we?

Now, remember my dear friend, Penelope, that fabulous fashionista who helps me track down the best vintage shops across the globe? She gave me some really exciting intel.

Imagine this: May 22nd, 2018. It's Tuesday. A lovely sunny afternoon in Paris. A beautiful young dancer is preparing backstage, donning a tutu that looks like it's straight out of a fairytale! She's wearing it as part of the ballet corps at the Paris Opera Ballet (you know, the grands ballets? Les Sylphides or Giselle...oh, the sheer romance!)

Okay, this time trip isn't about me travelling through time to witness a performance (though I would love to go to Paris again and catch a ballet!) But what’s truly exciting for a tutu aficionado is that this very day, the Paris Opera Ballet announced they would hold a big Tutu-themed exhibition. They called it "Tutu – Une Évolution" which basically means "Tutu – A Journey Through Time." Imagine being able to explore the evolution of this incredible costume right at the source – that’s magic! It sounds simply fabulous, doesn't it?

I can just picture the exhibit - the historical designs, the gorgeous fabric and lace, and the stunning variety of tutus from throughout the centuries. This kind of exhibit really allows us to celebrate not just the beauty of the ballet tutu, but the way this magnificent costume has become the ultimate symbol of a ballerina's grace and artistry.

It gets better! Because right around the corner, in Derbyshire, there was another amazing ballet-related event on this very date: the Derbyshire Ballet opened its 2018 season. Can you believe it?! Ballet is just blooming everywhere!! And that's the kind of energy we need more of.

For a tutu lover like me, May 22nd, 2018 would have been pure bliss.

Imagine: a day of beautiful, twirling tutus, surrounded by graceful dancers. And on the other side of the globe, in Derbyshire, a celebration of local talent bringing the world of ballet to their doorstep. I'm sure they would've been absolutely packed, the crowd filled with all sorts of fabulous outfits. (I always wonder if any of the people watching the performance were wearing tutus to show their support! I would have! What about you?)

My fellow tutu enthusiasts, it seems we're at the brink of a tutu-mania explosion. Ballet is getting more popular, with new events, productions and exhibitions popping up every single day! We have to keep our eyes peeled – the possibilities are absolutely endless!

I do have to give a huge shoutout to everyone involved in making ballet so fabulous: the dancers who put their heart and soul into every step; the seamstresses who meticulously create the beautiful costumes; and of course, the audience members who truly appreciate the magic and artistry of the dance. You're all doing amazing!

Oh, and before I let you go, a little behind-the-scenes detail – remember that vintage store in Paris, the one with the incredible tulle? They even had a collection of vintage ballet tutus! Talk about a dream! I snagged a gorgeous silk creation from the 1940s, and I'm already dreaming of how I’ll style it! I'll post a photo of my new treasure on the Pink Tutu Instagram this week! Make sure to check it out.

Speaking of pink… what do you think I'm wearing this week? Pink? Obviously! But I’m feeling especially vibrant pink, a shade like those sweet pink roses I bought last week at a little market in Bloomsbury! Let's all remember, pink is always en vogue.

So, remember to join me next Tuesday for another trip into the exciting, tutu-filled world of dance history! And remember darlings, you don't need to be a ballerina to wear a tutu. Just have the confidence and wear it with flair! Until then, keep twirling and don't forget to share your love of tutus with the world!

Stay pink,

Emma xx
