Tutu Tuesday: A Peek at the Past!

Hello darlings! Welcome back to Pink-Tutu.com, your one-stop shop for all things pink and twirly. This week we’re going on a grand adventure into the history of ballet – specifically, the iconic piece of clothing we all know and love: the tutu! As always, I'm your bubbly guide Emma, and I'm channeling my inner time-traveling ballerina to whisk you back to December 31st, 2019. That's right, we're travelling through the annals of ballet history! Grab your tickets for a magical ride!

So, what’s happening on December 31st, 2019? Well, this is a bit of a funny one. For us, here in Paris, New Year's Eve 2019 was the beginning of a new decade! Of course, no New Year's Eve is complete without a spectacular performance at the Opéra Garnier. It seems like everyone was going to see “La Bayadère” that night. From the looks of the dress reviews, the ballet's costumes and the tutus were getting some rave reviews. Apparently, a classic never goes out of style, which certainly applies to the tutus! I have to admit, the romantic era in dance certainly makes a bold and striking impression, right? The longer tutus and intricate details are right up my alley – I can imagine it was truly dazzling in person!

But even though it's all about sparkling tutus, December 31st also saw some exciting news for the fashion world. It seems there was an "Oscars of the fashion world" award happening that night! It wasn’t just the tutus in ballet that were creating a stir that night - the red carpet saw some very dramatic styles – and I’m just so grateful I don’t have to try to decipher what’s going on with those looks! All I need is a pink tutu!

Speaking of “fashion” and “tutus,” my travels to 2019 just reaffirmed my love for the historical connections of the tutu. They started evolving alongside fashion itself, creating such beautiful transformations from century to century! This incredible transformation wasn't limited to the tutus; the beauty and precision of ballet has always kept pace with the trends of the day! You know how I love my shopping trips, and imagine finding such wonderfully whimsical creations through time? It's practically a time traveller's dream.

While on the subject of fashion, how could we not mention the impact the tutu had on modern pop culture? From Disney Princesses to figure skating to iconic music videos, the tutu has danced its way into our collective imagination! My mission here at Pink-Tutu.com? To keep that imagination alive! Every Tuesday, I hope to keep that magical sense of the past alive while reminding everyone just how beautiful and powerful the tutu is! It's not just for dancing. It’s an extension of the dance of fashion itself – one we can continue to create with every outfit!

Now, I can’t go without some fun trivia about this glamorous period, can I? So let’s go on a mini tour of our Parisian travels!

First up, in this period in 2019, the Palais Garnier was abuzz with anticipation for New Year's Eve. From its sparkling chandelier to its elegant balconies, the Garnier's magic always fills the air! Just like I find in ballet class every week! Can you imagine what it would be like to see the "La Bayadère” dancers floating through that incredible theater? Oh, the thrill!

Second, we need to consider all those fabulous French traditions around December 31st, 2019! Remember that French New Year's Eve traditions are famous for their celebration! They eat tons of festive treats like escargots (yuck!) charcuterie, and, of course, the best Macarons! It was a total sensory overload for my taste buds. Oh, I almost forgot - let's not forget about New Year's Eve Champagne! Now that's a drink fit for a ballerina.

But let’s talk about tutus! If we’re looking back to 2019, we need to give some serious props to Marie Taglioni. If you’re into fashion like me, then you must understand that she’s absolutely revolutionary! Back in 1832, her idea of replacing the heavier skirt with a new, light style of tutu for the ballerina “La Sylphide” really sparked something huge! She made it a statement of the dance, so elegant and beautiful that it became an essential piece of ballet history. In some ways, the tutu allowed the dancer's own skill to stand out. As a fashion lover and an admirer of history, I love these kinds of moments. I like to think Marie would like a pink tutu, wouldn't you?

As always, darlings, you have the most inspiring sense of style, and I know I’m just one tutu-loving fashionista in a vast, swirling, magical world of dance. Please don't be shy! Share your love for tutus and tell me all about your favorite moments from the world of ballet and dance! Just think about it, you might be influencing your favourite designer or inspiring a new fashion craze for future generations! I look forward to seeing your thoughts on Pink-Tutu.com! I also love the amazing pictures and comments you send me. Your enthusiasm for dance, style and ballet history is just fantastic!

Keep twirling!

Emma
