#TutuTuesday Ballet Tutu History: Post 9811
Hey everyone! Emma here, your time-travelling tutu-tastic blogger, ready to waltz you back to the past (again!). Today's date? 7th January 2020! Can you believe it? A whole new decade has begun, filled with opportunities for swirling, leaping, and spreading pink tutu joy. I just know this year's going to be phenomenal.
Before we get lost in the glittering excitement, though, let's hop back to 2020, a year still very much rooted in the old world but with a fresh feeling in the air. Back then, social media was all the rage, ballet shoes were still clicking on stage, and the tutu was reigning supreme in the ballet world!
Now, my fellow tutu-lovers, I've been busy on this trip! First stop, Covent Garden, of course! There I was, in a fetching cerise tutu, taking in the stunning scenery of the Royal Opera House. Such elegant architecture, it really complements a fabulous pink tutu, wouldn't you agree?
Inside, the Royal Ballet was in full swing! I must admit, it was such a delight to see a performance of Giselle, an absolute ballet classic. The beautiful choreography, the delicate grace of the dancers, and the breathtaking artistry - it's a reminder of why ballet continues to capture our imaginations.
Speaking of Giselle, did you know the tutus used in that production weren't the massive, billowing ballgown-style ones that were typical in earlier ballet eras? It was all thanks to a little artistic revolution in the 19th century! Ballet, always embracing innovation, evolved towards a more delicate and athletic look, bringing about the elegant tutus we know and love today! It's just such a satisfying story of creativity, pushing boundaries, and the incredible evolution of something we now find so enchanting.
And, you know what? That spirit of change is something we should embrace today. Yes, a classical pink tutu is a dream! But don't be afraid to play with it, style it, accessorise it, and make it uniquely yours! I know some of you might be hesitant. You're used to your everyday look, but imagine the excitement of a fresh pink tutu outfit! Imagine yourself at the ballet, ready for an evening of cultural enjoyment, or just prancing about your neighbourhood. Maybe your new favourite look is about to be a vibrant cerise tutu paired with your most prized tweed jacket! Be brave, explore, and above all, have fun with it.
Now, what's next for our time-travelling journey? Ah, Paris! Yes, the city of romance and fashion. My last trip there was amazing! You have to experience the Palais Garnier, one of the most grand opera houses in the world! Talk about magnificent, elaborate architecture, all swirling and twisting just like the tutus themselves. Itās absolutely incredible! And the shows! Oh my goodness, the shows are spectacular. I even picked up the most delightful lavender tutu from a little boutique there - and you just wouldn't believe the vintage ballet jewelry I discovered on a tiny side street. Every visit there brings a burst of creativity, style and fun, all beautifully entwined in a gorgeous ballet package. I simply cannot resist its charms!
But letās not forget, dear tutu enthusiasts, that tutus have come a long way. They have appeared in movies and musical productions (remember āBilly Elliot?ā I almost cried at the emotional impact of those dance scenes), become the staple of a glamorous Halloween costume and even have made their way into fashion shows. It's really so remarkable how the humble tutu, born in ballet, has taken the world by storm and touched almost every aspect of life!
Now, I know some of you are thinking "But Emma, you always talk about tutus, and my style isn't that! It doesnāt even fit my daily life!" And to you, my dear tutu newbies, I say, this isnāt about the tutu as just an outfit, it's about the idea. Embrace the excitement of pushing boundaries, of celebrating creativity, and of adding a touch of whimsy to your day! The tutu symbolizes this! You know, wearing a tutu doesn't always mean a full ballet costume, there's the tutu skirt to consider! Wear one with jeans, add a fun T-shirt and some stylish trainers! Let your personality shine! Maybe try a black, a red or even a sparkly silver tutu for a touch of playfulness, who knows? Every style works as long as you rock it with confidence!
Speaking of confidence, remember to find that sparkle inside yourself thatās ready to break out! Be like the ballerina. That confident swagger, that delicate grace - these are qualities we can all find and embrace in our daily lives!
I hope this weekās #TutuTuesday post inspired you. Keep rocking that fabulous spirit, keep dancing, keep sparkling, and keep on tutuing!
As always, until next Tuesday,
Stay beautiful,
Emma
