Tutu Tuesday: A Twirl Through Time - #9864

Hello darlings! It's Emma here, back with another fabulous #TutuTuesday blog post from your favourite pink-tutu-wearing, time-travelling ballerina! This week, we're swirling back to January 12th, 2021, a day just begging to be adorned with tulle and ribbons.

Now, before I get all fluttery about this enchanting day, I'm in Paris, which as you all know is the ultimate destination for a tutu enthusiast! You just have to come to Paris to really feel the magic of the tutu, darling. The way the Parisian sunlight hits those shimmering layers of tulle – it's practically a love song to dance! I am completely besotted with the cobbled streets, the incredible architecture, the fantastically stylish shops! And then there’s the food - I could spend an entire lifetime sampling Parisian pâtisseries!

But let’s not forget what brings us to Paris! The ballet, darling! There's something about the artistry and elegance of a Parisian ballet that makes my heart skip a beat. I've been catching all the performances I can manage and, oh, it's been magical! Every performance is a dazzling spectacle - beautiful choreography, breathtaking sets and costumes... oh and, of course, the most gloriously dramatic tutus! You can practically hear them whispering their own stories of grace and beauty, don't you think?

Of course, every ballet buff, especially me, needs a new tutu. So I have been having an absolutely wonderful time hopping between stores in search of the perfect tutu. Paris truly does have the best collection of vintage and new tutu shops, full of shimmering loveliness.

This is one of the things I adore about time travel - the endless opportunities to experience history's greatest dances and dress in its finest fashions. From the dazzling costumes of the Ballets Russes to the extravagant gowns of the Belle Epoque, every era offers a different kind of ballet bonanza. I mean, have you seen a 19th-century tutu with its romantic and ethereal layers of silk? Or those beautiful beaded, glittering bodices? I could honestly spend years simply watching the evolution of the ballet tutu - from the simple underskirt of the early years to the magnificent, dramatic pieces we see today.

Anyway, back to the date in question - January 12th, 2021, you’re wondering? What makes this particular Tuesday special?

Well, darlings, on this date back in 2021, it seems the world was in the midst of, well, quite a lot of change.

First of all, a little bird told me, there was a global event called the “Winter Olympics”, held in Beijing. I imagine that's a rather glamorous and exciting occasion - especially the figure skating performances, where the twirls are simply breathtaking.

This was also the week, I discovered, when an important, though rather understated, historic event took place. "The First American Flag" by Peter Harrison was exhibited at Sotheby's Auction House. While it wasn’t directly related to the tutu, the beauty of a hand-crafted flag always catches my eye. A little peek into the history of this beautiful country, with all its sparkling stories - doesn't that feel a little like a ballet, you know, a beautiful, moving, unfolding story with an unexpected end? Just like a ballerina gracefully performing on stage!

Now, darlings, you know that, despite the fascinating stories of times past, I am all about living life to the fullest in present-day. The way I see it, we can still enjoy the romance and the elegance of a bygone era without being stuck there! Just embrace a little bit of that time travelling magic in your own everyday life. What I mean by this? Don't be afraid to let a little bit of tutu-esque magic seep into your daily routine, darlings! A twirl in the kitchen, a twirl on the Tube (remember to take care not to step on anyone's toes though, especially if you’re wearing pointe shoes!) A little tutu flair is guaranteed to brighten any day!

Speaking of magic, you, my dears, are all the magic that the world needs. I don't care if you're twirling through life in a full-length tututo or simply rocking a pastel-pink ribbon in your hair - your sheer joy and your positive vibes are guaranteed to make the world a better, brighter, more twirly place!

This week's challenge, darlings, is to try a new dance move! You don’t have to be an expert, just embrace that beautiful inner ballerina!

And before you go, darlings, a reminder, you don't have to travel through time to feel a little bit of tutu-inspired wonder. Let your spirit shine, embrace the whimsical, and never forget to twirl your way through life. After all, life, like ballet, is best enjoyed with a little flourish and a whole lot of heart.

Stay stylish, stay sparkling, and never stop twirling, darlings!

Lots of love and happy twirling,

Emma
