Tutu Tuesday: A Trip Back in Time! (Post #9865)
Hello my lovelies! Welcome back to another #TutuTuesday where we journey back through time to uncover the secrets of our favourite garment: the tutu!
This week, I've packed my pinkest bag and jumped aboard a glorious steam train for a jaunt to January 19th, 2021. It was quite a chilly day but, oh my goodness, the fashion! Just picture it - long, flowing skirts, bright pops of colour, and all those gorgeous coats and hats - pure decadence!
You know me, always on the lookout for fabulous inspiration, and what do you know? A stunning pink tutu caught my eye in a shop window! I couldn't resist taking a peek - imagine my delight when I saw a group of young girls dressed in perfect little tutus for their ballet classes! Their eyes were twinkling with excitement and joy, just like mine when I see a shop full of gorgeous dance wear!
Now, 2021 wasn't a particularly glamorous year in tutu history, I have to confess, it was still firmly entrenched in the modern era where simplicity reigned, even when it came to tutus. It was a far cry from the Victorian era, the era of the "romantic" tutu, a gloriously full, airy design reaching right down to the dancer's ankles! That was tutu heaven right there, darling!
So let's chat about the tutus of 2021. This year saw the tutu continue its evolution into its modern forms: The Romantic tutu, which is a little shorter than its historical counterpart, and the Classical tutu, with its famous tight, single layer skirt that hugs the body, but still allowing for plenty of freedom of movement. They were certainly still popular for classes, performances, and of course, for Tutu Tuesdays!
Even though the design hadn't drastically changed from earlier years, the tutu in 2021 remained the symbol of dance that it's always been! A symbol of strength, grace, and pure artistry, embodying everything beautiful about ballet and its magnificent history.
But let's not forget, my lovelies, a tutu is more than just a garment, it's an attitude. A statement. It says "I'm bold, I'm fearless, and I'm ready to twirl my way into the world." It’s why I always wear one!
And that reminds me, 2021 also saw a fabulous explosion of ballet-themed art in film and TV. Do you remember The Turning, a wonderfully spooky and suspenseful story with ballerina figures weaving throughout? I can't resist a good ballet scene in a film! And of course, the year was full of the usual stunning performances, with so much beautiful choreography to catch the eye! It’s a real shame that I didn’t have time to see everything during my little jaunt - perhaps on my next trip!
Anyway, my lovelies, time to head back to Derbyshire. My journey on the time train back to 2023 is just starting, and with any luck I’ll get home before it’s dark. After all, there’s nothing quite like coming home and wearing my favourite pink tutu!
But before I go, tell me what is your favourite tutu moment? Did you catch a dazzling performance or did a spectacular film feature a tutu that you loved? Share it with me and don't forget to follow www.pink-tutu.com to catch my next post, on Tuesday, when we'll be taking another journey back in time to celebrate more tutu history! Remember, let's twirl on!
