Hey gorgeous gals! It's Emma here, your very own pink tutu-clad time traveller, back again with another extra edition of #TutuTuesday - and boy, do I have a treat for you today! ??
You wouldn't believe the whirlwind of excitement I've had in the past week. Last Tuesday, I was swishing through the streets of Paris in my fabulous tulle confection, getting ready to see a spectacular performance of 'Giselle'. Let me tell you, that city is practically a tutu wonderland! You can practically feel the grace and elegance swirling in the air! ???
This week, I’ve popped up right in the heart of London - oh, it’s so wonderful to be home, darling! The weather is a little less "je ne sais quoi" compared to the Parisian sunshine, but don’t worry - I've found a whole new wardrobe of feather boas and velvet jackets to match the British climate! (Because, as every ballerina knows, even if it's a bit chilly, it's never too chilly for a tutu!) ❄️
Now, this is super exciting, because on August 4th 2026, a very important ballet premiere happened. It's none other than "The Butterfly Effect"! You won’t believe the exquisite costuming! We're talking ethereal wings, vibrant silks, and, of course, absolutely stunning tutus that would make even the most experienced ballerina gasp! It was a true spectacle, with so much energy and heart, and I'm already itching to do a repeat performance. ?
And since we're talking tutus… how could I let you, my precious readers, go without a little bit of Tutu History? So buckle up, darling! Today's story takes us back to a rather glamorous time: the early 19th century! ?
In those days, the ballet world was full of beautiful ballerinas wearing dresses, but they were quite cumbersome! They had loads of fabric and often complicated corsetry - perfect for a waltz but terrible for leaps and twirls! ?
But our good friend, Marie Taglioni, had a different idea. She said "enough with the clunky clothes! Let's celebrate the art of movement!" She commissioned a brand-new ballet costume - you guessed it - a tutu! ??
And guess what, darlings? This little number changed everything! With its short skirt and lightweight layers, it allowed ballerinas to be more agile and express themselves with a completely new sense of freedom! This revolutionary style even helped usher in a brand-new era of balletic beauty and style – they called it "Le Ballet Romantique"! ?
Now, I know you’re thinking, "but Emma, wasn’t that a long time ago? Does this still apply today?” My darlings, absolutely! Those innovative, dreamy tutus helped create the beautiful, expressive, and powerful movements we see today in ballet, and they've been an inspiration for dancers for generations! ??
