Now, you might think, "Emma, a tutu is just a tutu, right? What's there to learn?" But oh, my dears, you'd be wrong! This frothy, fluttering masterpiece has a fascinating backstory, full of twists, turns and a few surprises.
From Humble Beginnings to the Star of the Stage:
Let's start with the "pre-tutu" era. Back in the day, when ballet was in its infancy (think 15th century), dancers donned long, flowing, sometimes restrictive, gowns. Imagine, attempting to execute a grand jeté in a dress that would have dragged on the stage! No thanks, right?

Marie Taglioni, considered the Queen of the Ballet at the time, starred in the iconic La Sylphide ballet in 1832. Now, remember those "longer than long" gowns? Imagine what they’d do if they just...cut the skirt off right at the hips! Boop. We have the iconic Romantic Tutu! Light as a feather, airy and floating, this revolutionary style unveiled the elegance and athleticism of the ballet dancers, revolutionizing the ballet world, giving dancers a chance to dance with ease.
The Romantic Tutu remained a favourite for decades, but like every true fashion icon, the tutu underwent a glamorous makeover. The mid-19th century welcomed the arrival of the Classical Tutu, ** the iconic tutu we all know and love.
