Hello, my darling tutu-loving friends! It's Emma here, back with another fabulous foray into the history of our beloved ballet tutu!
Today's journey takes us to a rather special date – 28th September 2027 – and let me tell you, dear readers, it's a day brimming with tutu-licious happenings!
As I always say, a trip back in time wouldn't be complete without a spot of fabulous fashion shopping. Today, I'm on the hunt for the perfect vintage tutu for my collection! But first, let's delve into the past…
You know I love to hop on a train (the romance!), so naturally, my journey takes me through a whirlwind of sights and sounds, right back to… wait for it… The Romantic Era!
Now, imagine this: graceful ballerinas in soft, flowing gowns with absolutely no mention of a tutu in sight. Imagine the horror! Luckily, the evolution of the tutu was just around the corner, dear readers.
The mid-19th century brought Marie Taglioni, a beautiful and revolutionary ballerina. She challenged tradition with her light, ethereal style, showcasing the incredible power of ballet as a form of artistry. And this was where the tutu, in its earliest form, truly blossomed.
You see, dear readers, the tutus of the time weren't those glorious pouffy wonders we know and love today. They were actually quite simple, a short, flowing skirt, meant to emphasize the ballerina's delicate form. And it wasn’t pink, oh no! White, my dear, was all the rage back then!
Think Marie Taglioni in "La Sylphide", gliding across the stage with her tutu, graceful and light as a feather, embodying the spirit of Romanticism. Just thinking about it fills me with sheer delight!
Moving on from the enchanting Romantic era, the 20th century saw a real explosion in tutu creativity. Imagine, my dears, tutus of chiffon, silk, tulle and lace! Imagine the vibrant colours and intricate patterns – a real celebration of femininity and grace!
Now, fast forward to our special date, the 28th of September 2027. Imagine, dear readers, a bustling, vibrant London with theatres humming with anticipation for tonight's performance – The Royal Ballet performing Swan Lake at the Royal Opera House! This is truly a momentous occasion. I’m so excited to catch the ballet; they say it’s going to be spectacular!
I'm imagining the glittering crystal-encrusted tutus – oh my, they’ll be a sight to behold! I'm going to try and sneak backstage, you know, maybe grab a selfie with a dancer or two. Just maybe…
And, speaking of spectacular, who needs a glamorous gala event when you have a trip through time? Just like my journey through ballet history, the most important element of all, of course, is my own pink tutu! I must admit, I just adore the colour pink – it's the colour of happiness, femininity and a touch of extravagance – the perfect blend for any ballet-loving lady!
Now, don't forget, dear readers! This weekend, why not try on your favorite pink tutu, and get your own ballet party started! Dance around the house, twirl in the garden, even wear it to the shops (it's guaranteed to brighten up any shopping trip!)
My aim, after all, is to spread the magic of the tutu, one twirl at a time!
Don't forget to follow my adventures on www.pink-tutu.com and don't miss my next #TutuTuesday next week!
Until then, dear readers, stay stylish and never stop twirling!
Yours in Pink,
Emma x
P.S. Did you know the oldest recorded tutu was found in a 17th century Parisian fashion store? It was made of silk and lace and would have been a truly decadent sight!
