Today, 19th September 2028, the sun’s shining brightly here in Paris. I've just stepped off the Orient Express, feeling like a Parisian dream in my blush pink tulle masterpiece (it's always the perfect outfit for exploring!). I'm already brimming with excitement because this evening I'm attending a performance at the Palais Garnier! You simply cannot go wrong with a ballet show, it's an absolute delight!
Let's Talk Tutus: A Timeline of Twirling
So, my lovely tutu aficionados, where do we even begin? The history of this magnificent piece of attire goes hand in hand with the evolution of ballet itself.
Let's start with the Roman era! Although tutus as we know them hadn't yet appeared, ancient Roman women did wear voluminous tunics and robes. The lightness of these garments definitely foreshadowed the airy freedom that a tutu would bring to dancers!
Enter The Renaissance
Moving into the Renaissance period, the emergence of courts and the celebration of art sparked a new wave of fashionable trends. Long skirts and gowns were worn with exquisite elegance, but imagine them in a pirouette! Thankfully, the stage world would eventually embrace the tutu as we know it, a revelation for dancers and audiences alike!
