#TutuTuesday Ballet Tutu History on 2029-04-17

Welcome back to Pink-Tutu.com, my lovelies! It's Tuesday, which means it's time for another dose of tutu history! And, wouldn't you know it, this week I'm celebrating the 17th of April, 2029 – a date that's filled with as much sparkle and whimsy as a freshly-pressed tutu! ?

This time, my adventures brought me to…wait for it…Paris! I know, I know, the City of Lights always knows how to throw a party! But this time, it wasn't a chic Parisian soirée I was attending. Oh no, darling, this was for the Paris Opera Ballet! Imagine the grand theatre, the velvet seats, and the most stunning ballerinas pirouette-ing across the stage in…yes, you guessed it…beautiful, flowing tutus! ?

You see, my dears, tutus are more than just pretty dresses. They're pieces of history, stories spun from silk and tulle. Each fold, each layer, tells a tale. So, let's travel back in time a bit, shall we? ?️

Believe it or not, tutus have a long and glamorous history. They started out, believe it or not, as basic Roman skirts! Yes, way back then, a skirt called a chiton would be worn with a girdle. I always imagined ancient Rome with the women dressed in gorgeous tutus but, sadly, history is not on my side, at least, not with tutus. However, fast forward a couple of centuries to the Victorian Era, and the tutu, well, she was really starting to make a name for herself! Remember my sweet little "Romantic" and "Classic" tutus? Well, these ballerinas were getting into some amazing outfits with some dramatic hemlines! The stage was truly theirs. They became almost symbolic, almost theatrical - a truly revolutionary look, don’t you think?

The tutu we know and love started appearing during the Romantic period. Think ethereal and floaty with more and more layers of tulle for the most fantastic "take off" looks as ballerinas leaped onto the stage! Just divine, I say! ? From then on, the tutu became a symbol of ballet itself! These ladies were the queens of the dance, graceful and light!

From there, my dears, it was a whirlwind of fabulous fashion! Think tutus in a rainbow of colors! Tutus that danced across stages and became part of the iconic moments of ballet. Imagine the iconic scene from “Swan Lake” – ballerinas wearing a white tutu, their figures transformed into elegant, flowing swans. Talk about a ballet wardrobe change to die for! I just wish I had that wardrobe, it would have so many colours!

However, my darlings, tutus weren’t confined to just one colour or style! Pink became the ultimate, iconic tutu for “The Nutcracker” and later with “Sleeping Beauty” and "Don Quixote" they went full pink tulle! But the styles changed. Then there was "Giselle” with her iconic Romantic tulle dress and then “Paquita” who sported the most wonderful layered tutu. A truly amazing skirt, with more than fifty layers! My oh my! And the variations went on and on! I even saw yellow tutus at the Palais Garnier on that incredible Paris Opera Ballet show. So elegant, so unique! They had so much volume and they almost seemed like an extension of the ballerinas themselves!

What I truly adore is that the tutu is no longer confined to the stage! Today, they are part of fashion and are making their way into street style too. Imagine that - all those iconic ballet looks right on the high street! *That's what I like to call “Ballet Street" * - so much fun and definitely in fashion! You can see all of this trend right now in all of my favorite cities - in London, Paris and New York - they are all doing “Ballet Street”! The trend even features in some fabulous shows such as “Pretty Woman, the Musical”, “Moulin Rouge” and “Wicked”. So trendy and iconic!

You can even wear tutus on the red carpet too! You can always tell when a ballet enthusiast attends an event, because you know there's going to be a gorgeous pink tulle ball gown or a short layered tutu in the mix. Now that is truly a statement!

And it isn’t just about fashion. Tutus inspire art, movies and music, making it the ultimate symbol of artistry and grace! That’s what’s so inspiring about it, all these amazing pieces of history and art come together to make these iconic pieces of clothing, and they never lose their appeal!

So there you have it, my dears! My #TutuTuesday is always about more than just tutus, it’s about celebrating history, style, art, creativity and a touch of the whimsical! My travels are all thanks to these lovely tutus and the incredible art and performance world they belong to! I just wish that more people would take up ballet – even for fun – as everyone could find their inner dancer. Perhaps all these stylish fashionistas who like to dabble in “Ballet Street" could get a little more involved!

Speaking of future journeys, where will this tutu travel next? Oh, darling, the world is my oyster, especially when I have all my vintage, layered, modern, iconic tutus in my collection! And I always carry my lovely pink tulle and satin number just for these special occasions.
