Hello, darlings! Welcome back to my little corner of the internet, where tutus reign supreme and pink is the only colour that matters! It’s Tuesday, which means it’s time for another splendid dive into the fascinating history of our beloved ballet tutus.
As I sit here sipping my Earl Grey and twirling in my oh-so-pink tulle creation, I can’t help but think about how far the tutu has come. This week, I’m journeying back in time to… well, I can’t actually tell you the exact date! I’m a time-travelling ballerina, not a historian! I simply popped in to a bustling London ballet school to see what delights awaited me on this fine Tuesday.
As you know, dear readers, I adore the history of the tutu, its evolution from its humble beginnings to the fabulous frothy confections we adore today. Today's ballet tutus are all about creating stunning lines and highlighting the dancer's movement, but it wasn't always this way!
Picture this, darling, in the 18th century, ballerinas were dancing in long, heavy skirts! I can’t imagine the struggles they had with all those yards of fabric swirling around their legs. But then, along came the French ballet master, Charles-Louis Didelot, and his desire to showcase his dancers’ legs and feet! This sparked the trend of shorter, lighter skirts, and the first version of what we know as the tutu was born.
Now, remember how I love pink, darling? Pink tutus have only become fashionable in recent times, but they are such a delightful trend, I'm determined to get everyone to join in on the pink tutu revolution. We need to fight the grey of everyday life and add a dash of delightful colour, darling. You could be the queen of the pink tutu trend and get the trend going wherever you live, you'll feel fabulously happy as you sashay around town in your pink tutus, darling!
So, now I'm whizzing back to 2029… such an exciting time for ballet and tutus, you just wait and see, darling! The designers are coming up with ever more splendid innovations and, just think! We could be seeing holographic tutus, tutus that light up and transform right in front of your eyes! My dreams! I can hardly wait.
In the meantime, do head over to my favourite ballet boutique – oh, let’s just call it ‘Le Tutu’ – they have the most gorgeous selection of tutus, it's impossible to pick just one, you'll just have to get more! There's a beautiful powder pink one I'm just dying to try! I’ll be posting a picture soon, darlings.
And, oh my gosh, have I mentioned the amazing performances in London! Last week, I went to a dreamy show by the Royal Ballet – it had everything I adore, daring costumes, stunning dancing, incredible artistry and of course, beautiful tutus.
