Hold onto your pointe shoes, because today's journey through time isn't just a trip back, but a bold leap forward to the year 2031!
Let's be honest, a time-travelling ballerina needs a wardrobe for any era. My latest pink tutu is simply glorious, featuring shimmering, holographic sequins that change colour with every flick of my foot – a true triumph for a fashion-forward traveller. I may be a Derbyshire girl at heart, but travelling through time allows me to shop the world’s finest boutiques for the perfect, shimmering, tutus. The only problem is having to carry it all in my travelling bag.
This trip landed me in a dazzling metropolis – Tokyo, to be precise. It's like a city that’s come straight out of a ballet score! And, the energy? Oh, darling! I have to admit, it has been years since I have felt such a buzz about fashion, street dance and the ballet.
Here in Japan, the ballet scene is positively blooming! They have the most incredible performance spaces, and every week there is a dazzling array of ballets, from classical to contemporary to street performance - oh, the joy!
But let’s get back to the history - I have a feeling you’ve come for that!
2031: A Time for the Tutu
Firstly, imagine a world of shimmering tutus! I am so excited about what has become of ballet.
Tutudom in 2031 is really quite something. Everywhere you look, in theaters and fashion runways alike, it’s an absolute tutu extravaganza. The whole look is super-modern, so we have seen the return of the classic, pale pink tutu, a truly joyful nod to the 1830s when Marie Taglioni first captivated audiences in “La Sylphide”.
But today’s ballerinas are reimagining the tutu with all sorts of stunning embellishments - think futuristic fabrics and bold colours - there’s nothing too daring! My new tutus are just too incredible for words - but maybe I can persuade you with some photos next week?!
One of my favourite trends that’s really exploded on the 2031 scene? Tutu-inspired streetwear! Imagine a pair of sleek joggers with a pastel tulle overlay, or even a chic leather jacket paired with a ruffled tutu skirt - a truly elegant way to wear your ballet heart on your sleeve.
I spent a fun afternoon with my travelling companion, Penelope - we bought ourselves “ballet shoes” that were essentially sleek running shoes with built-in LEDs - the ultimate for the modern tutu enthusiast!
*March 25th in 2031 – What a Date! *
March 25th in 2031 saw the premiere of a ballet performance in Tokyo’s largest theatrical space - and my fellow tutu enthusiasts were there, ready to twirl! The name of the performance? “Symphony of Shadows”. Sounds fabulous, doesn't it? I hear that a young, exciting new ballerina has been starring in the production. I have to admit to being envious - what an amazing opportunity to wear an exciting new tutu! I might even steal one of the designer’s designs. If she sees me, maybe she’ll think I am an inspiring, fashion icon. I know, I know, egotistical, me?!
As always, I’m in awe at the incredible evolution of the tutu! We are truly in a golden age of this beautiful dance wear.
