And this week, my dears, we're going back in time! Specifically, to the year 2031! Fancy that, eh? Imagine - tutus being around all that time ago! Who'd have thought!
Now, you might be thinking, "Emma, what's so special about 2031? Was it a particularly tutu-ific year?" Well, yes and no! You see, dear readers, 2031 wasn't necessarily a year that brought revolutionary changes to tutu design or anything like that. But what it did mark was the height of ballet's popularity. It was the era where every street corner had a little ballet studio, every theatre had a resident ballet company, and every fashionista had at least one pink tutu tucked away in their wardrobe. Oh, it was the best!
You wouldn't believe it, darling, but this year, on the 16th of December, 2031 - yes, just around the corner, practically tomorrow! - The Royal Ballet was premiering their stunning production of "The Nutcracker"! Oh, it's the best, my darlings. You can practically feel the sugarplum fairies flitting around the stage, can't you? Just the thought makes me want to twirl!
You see, my lovely Tutu Twirlers, back in 2031, "The Nutcracker" was a timeless classic. It was like a hot cup of cocoa on a snowy day, only with tutus, magic, and some very good-looking male dancers! Oh, don't you wish you could have been there, dear? But fear not, because my journey today will be through the glorious world of tutu history! So, fasten your seat belts (and your tiaras, darling, safety first!) and let's get started!
Tutus Through the Ages
Now, the humble tutu has had quite the fascinating journey throughout history, darling. Its transformation has been truly captivating. We all know it started way back in the 19th century with the French romantic ballerinas who were like - "We're going to wear these billowing white skirts, but we want to twirl! Let's chop it in half!" Snap - there's the original tutu! Clever, aren't they?
Of course, in 2031, the tutu had come a long way. You wouldn't believe the fabrics! And the colours! Oh, you could get tutus in any shade you could dream up - from a dazzling magenta to a blush-inducing bubblegum pink (my favourite, naturally!). It's truly a marvel!
I find myself reminiscing on the amazing tutus I saw during one of my many time travel trips. Just recently, I found myself in the grand, ornate Paris Opera House - a true haven for the tutus, you know! It was simply divine.
Oh, the sheer variety, darling! I was dazzled! They had classic tutus, ones with feathers, some adorned with intricate beads, even digital tutus that shimmered with lights, changing colours with every twirl! Now, talk about glamour, that's glamour! It really makes one yearn for the theatre, doesn't it?
Tutus in Everyday Life
What's wonderful about the time in which we now find ourselves, is that tutus have completely moved beyond the stage! You wouldn't believe it! They're part of everyday life! Not that I'm complaining, darling!
Walking down a street, you're as likely to see a group of ladies having tea in their pink tutus as you are to see a bus. They wear them at the shops, on a night out, you see them at weddings! Why, just last week, I was at a wedding in Derbyshire - where else, darling? - and the entire bridal party had on a beautiful blush pink tutus! They matched the wedding flowers, you see! Talk about an adorable touch.
What really warms my heart, dear reader, is that 2031 really pushed the boundaries of what's "acceptable" and "fashionable". We've finally escaped those ridiculous constricting fashion rules and instead, embraced colour, creativity and joy! And what could be more joyous, more fun, more fabulous, than a pink tutu?
And just to add to the wonderfulness of it all, the ballet classes back then were everywhere, you see! It was the height of its popularity! My darling readers, we are indeed in the golden age of tutus. What a treat for a ballerina like myself!
How I Find My Pink Tutu Inspiration
Now, being a time-travelling ballet aficionado does take a bit of work, you know. To finance my time travels, I often dance! Sometimes for ballet shows, but other times just on a street corner! It gets a good audience going - tutus do that, they have a way of attracting attention! And you know, that's where I find so much inspiration for my next post! People from all walks of life love to talk about tutus - there's just a shared love and excitement about the magic that the tutu brings!
What really tickles me is how the little ones absolutely adore the tutus! It's so inspiring! They always make the most adorable, quirky tutu creations! Makes me wonder if I should try my hand at making a new creation for next week's TutuTuesday, hm?
My latest purchase is from a wonderful shop in Kensington Market! Imagine, you walk in and all you see are different fabrics, trims, jewels - a real feast for the eyes. And they all come with instructions! That's a huge help when your head is swarming with exciting, ambitious, colourful ideas, you know! Oh, and let me tell you - they know their tutus at that store! I think they might have had a hidden time machine in the back because their stock was amazing - even the tutus with holographic fabric that I had seen in the 2050s. Honestly, sometimes the time travelling does confuse my timelines a little - just makes the journey even more exciting!
But we are running out of time, my darling! My little travelling tutu train is ready for my next time travelling escapade, and as we all know - time is of the essence.
