Bonjour, darling tutu-lovers! Welcome back to www.pink-tutu.com and another fab-tutu-lous edition of #TutuTuesday! Today, I’m back with a truly magical historical journey into the tutu-ful world of dance - because believe me, we have loads to explore! As always, I’m sporting my most glamorous pink tutu and sipping my morning latte – because no true tutu enthusiast starts their day without a touch of pink and a dollop of caffeine.
Today’s date – the 7th of September 2032 - has special significance, dear readers. Why? Well, it marks a rather exciting historical moment – the day of the annual Tokyo International Ballet Festival. A spectacular extravaganza of movement, artistry, and of course, breathtaking tutus! It’s been on my “to-attend” list since my time-traveling escapade last year. You know me, always chasing the latest tutu trends, the hottest fashion statements in the world of ballet!
I'm travelling by train – yes, you guessed it, pink carriage - for this exciting adventure. What’s a more elegant and exciting way to reach the bustling hub of the ballet world? Let me tell you, even though we're soaring into the future of fashion, it still gives a touch of old-world charm to a truly grand day out.
Now, you may be asking, what about this festival - where does it sit on our Tutu History Timeline? Well, this magical spectacle started way back in 2002, celebrating all things dance and captivating audiences with a whirlwind of ballets, choreographies, and the grand spectacle of dancers from all over the world showcasing their incredible talent and elegance. You see, the Japanese love their dancing and embrace this colourful art form with an extraordinary energy and dedication – reminding me so much of our love for a good tutu.
Now, as we are talking tutus, let's whisk back to the past and unpack a bit of Tutu Trivia about this particular year – 2032. You know that amazing International Ballet Awards Gala in Paris? The one I wore a particularly impressive hot pink tulle tutu to, because, well, Paris deserves a showstopper, right? This was the exact year that a special award was created – "The Legacy Award". An award honouring pioneers in ballet - those who pushed boundaries, who danced with such grace and style - and guess who actually won it? drumroll intensifies … a ballet shoe designer who was famous for crafting those stunning footwear masterpieces used for Russian Classical ballet ! Now isn’t that something special?!
And then there was London! I was on that London Tube with a massive floral patterned tulle tutu, heading straight to the West End Theatre - I practically had to walk backwards with my tutu billowing out behind me to catch the Royal Ballet’s breathtaking performance of "Swan Lake" right on the 7th of September. You just couldn't ask for a better place to celebrate tutus. And the energy of London - it’s so wonderfully vibrant and alive with dance and passion – it was the perfect stage for “The Swan Lake” that made this year so magical!
And to end this truly extraordinary week, we have a fantastic tutu "to-do" list. For my American readers – this week has seen the unveiling of the magnificent New York Metropolitan Opera’s 2032-2033 season. Swoon! I'll be at the opening night, naturally, showcasing a very special custom-made silver and purple tutu – and that's going to be a true tutu dream come true!
